Election Night

Scottish independance is a must.

The 2 countries are so far apart politically that either is totally disenfranchised by the other.

A federal UK could see them given a greater degree of autonomy but preserving the union. That would be my preferred choice, along with an English parliament too, to put us on an equal footing with the other home nations.

Do you really think that can just be ignored?

In the novel (& later TV show) "A very British coup" they could be ignored as the left-wing PM instead borrowed the money from USSR, that extremely prosperous Socialist state.

Perhaps Brown could have continued employing a million extra people in the State every 10 years & got the money from North Korea & Cuba....

Do you honestly think this coalition is going to run for up to five years?

Heard William Haig braying on the Beeb.

He said the Libs have agreed not to force an election until at least 2015.

On the bright side, Daily Mail Man cometh.

Lord Tebbit, (remember him?), said on R5 last night Cameron is to blame for the Tories losing a 20 point lead in the polls during the run-up to the election, the major reason being Cameron’s performance in the TV debates.

Cameron had no excuses because he, Tebbit, advised him not to push-for or participate in such a venture several months ago.

Go gettem Norm!

The Right Wing could make this Government a good larf that will never survive 5 years.

Lets hope so.

Thats just the sort of reaction I would expect from a Tory.

It's a perfectly sensible response. I'm sick of politicians being judged on who they represent rather than what they've actually done. It is just petty tribalism. Some people really need to grow up.

How are you going to get a federal UK with a tory government.

Lib dem votes in Scotland will be split amongst Labour and SNP up here and once the cuts come in I suspect the SNP will benefit the most.

The system does not work when the country totally and utterly rejected the tories and put considerable support to the Lib dems. Only for them to force the tories on us.

As I am not Scottish I am not so upset but many many people I speak to who are, are absolutely livid.

Sorry SD our posts are crisscrossing.

Tribalism? What are you talking about. Political ideology is completely different than tribalism. Why don't we scrap the party system then and all hug.

Can't beleive the idiots saying new election in 12monts, the myth, you fell for.

Tories are in charge for the long haul 5 years of cuts and if Libs give any lip they'll be smashed, if theres any chance left for dissent as Libs, clearly gone back on all their promises and made good on lies. Lie down and accept it you lot or rationalise it any way you want Clegg is a traitor to his country for doing any kind of deal without the people's consultation and no one has been consalted about coalition.

All this talk of fixed term parliaments is all my arse anyway, this Government can be brought down by a vote of no confidence. The present arrangement can only last as long as everything goes pretty much perfect, but what will happen - for example - if Obama comes cap in hand asking us to back an invasion of Iran? The Tory hawks will be loving that shit while the sandle brigade will go postal at the idea. Cabinet split, country flounders, commies storm the bunker - job done.

Clegg has already said he would support an invasion of Iran, his only promise was the troops would be well equipped.

I didn't have no expectations. I didn't vote for none of these chumps as they are all the same, except the Tories don't pretend and don't need the excuse they currently have to cut things up. One certainty is that the NHS is screwed here, what little is left of it as it was when built by the public will be increasingly privatised, the corporations are going to run amok and you the poorest will pay for it all, twice.

Clegg is a public school boy what did you expect Dennis?

Fuck off with that shit, you can't hold his education in a public school against him any more than anyone should hold your education in some smelly comp on a sinkhole estate against you.

Fucking class war bullshit.

You're a sodding liar Dennis, you should be banned for your continued lies, they run this place down:

"Nick Clegg to Haaretz: I admire Israel, but won't stop criticizing its government" by Adar Primor

"I have not been exposed so far to any proof that we can stop the Iranian nuclear program by means of an aerial attack, while a comprehensive and all-out ground war is not an option.

Our greatest ally against Ahmadinejad and the extremists in Tehran is of course the Iranian people themselves. The opposition in Iran is widening and it's our best chance over the long term to neutralize Iran's nuclear capability.

We must find the proper and difficult balance between putting pressure on the Iranian regime by expanding the sanctions on the one hand and creating the conditions that will enable the Iranians themselves to confront their leaders on the other.

Talking about a military option does not contribute to that - on the contrary, it makes Ahmadinejad's life easy and enables him to claim that he is acting as he is because of the external military threats."

Yeah why can't working class people get in power, you know the majority?

As for Nick "I admire Israel" Clegg, he said in the debates himself what his intentions

are, clear and simple, he's already backed down over Trident, don't hold him up to be something he's not, you only do him a disservice so please don't call me a liar or are you calling him a liar??

The Lib Dems will not push for an election - why would they? The Tories will call one as soon as they think they can win a majority, citing the need for a 'strong single party government' - will happen within 18 months

I'm sure the Tories will help him out with 'proof' if that's all he needs, funny he didn't need it when we invaded neighbouring Afganistan. He's also now supporting Trident and claims the Iranians nuclear program needs stopping?

What a hypocritical weak man!
