Xabi wanted to leave and had done for some time. We received a bid of 30M pounds and decided that was acceptable. Masher had his balls tingled by speculation of interest from Barcelona, however we did not receive a bid from Barcelona so he stays.

 

Mascherano wanted to leavea as well, but unlike Alonso we didn't invite bids. We had Aquilani tied up a month or two before Alonso left, we just wanted the right money.

Just watching the replay of the Real game and he is running the show for them, I miss his incredible range of passing it's such a valuable asset which we don't have in our team any more.

Yep, I watched it too. There were a couple of brilliant left foot passes. The best was his through ball for the Higuain goal. And Higuain's finish was superb. First touch dink over the keeper.
