EDUARDO MACIA: "It's all about the right mentality"

when it comes to attacking players I firmly believe our scouts have let us down, whether that's Macia or something long term i dont know, he's only been here since 2006 but the fact that we have to pay a club record fee for a decent striker is what does my head in and we're now looking at paying another hefty fee for Keane, hardly the result of scouting genius spunking this money around....

and then when you look at the wings, it is depressing, so yeah I do believe they have let us down when it comes to attacking players, whether that's the scouts or Rafa's preferences i dont know but for a club with 70 scouts around the world and one who invests a lot into the operation, it's puzzling

What is interesting, re-reading Macia's interview, is that clearly Rafa DOESN'T watch players in person but delegates to Macia and the scouts. Time, i think, to revisit this policy as a matter of urgency. Time, too, to get rid of Macia and freshen up the scouting network - whoever our scouts are in South America (Paletta? Leto??) and France (anyone from Ferri through LeTallentless up to Eggnog) deserve to be shot. As for the man who chose Dossena....

there's little chance of that. football is very cliquey unless Rafa can be persuaded. to his (huge) credit he has admitted mistakes in the transfer market and says it's difficult to always get it right, he tends to fix those mistakes over time
