Good question. I'd presume we can sign him on a pre-contract agreement whenever we like, but then again so can any other club I think.

We need to keep him, he has easily been our player of the season so far, even though Torres have been grabbing the headlines...... mascherano has been top notch on a regular basis, he does not have bad games, and he has been playing his heart out.....

 

Actually the results seem to matter more to him than any of our current permanent players........

Well we knew this, it's hardly a surprise. Hopefully Rafa is telling the lad to hang in there in case we have a change of owners before then. We can sign him any time: we have his registration already, so it's just like a contract extension with a very big signing on fee.

Agents tend to say things like this. In Mascherano's case I don't think it will help though. He's on sale for £17m, and if we want him then he's ours. If we don't want him then every major club in Europe knows the score. Save the touting for another player, Mr Tamer.

He does but the message he's got is that it's only Rafa who wants him here. He feels the club(owners) aren't interested and he'll go if Rafa goes.

Normally i think the player should always want to play for the club regardless of who the manager is. However in these circumstances you have to have sympathy with masch lets not forget his nightmare at WestHam and if the owners can treat the manager with such contempt would you want to work for hillbillies like that, also what message is that sending to the footballing world about attracting other top players to us.
