Question : If Mascherano so desperate to stay al Liverpool - why doesnt he tell his agent to reduce stupid fee of £17m - he has no value to agent if not playing for a club and how long is his contract with his agent for - thought slave trade abolished nearly 150 years ago

Thats a brilliant idea.

Well, there's a lot of debate about whether we need to keep Mascherano or not. However, it is entirely beside the point when manager and player have decided that the player has a place on the team and wants to stay, respectively. A separate thread can be created for the merits of the decision to keep him. However when our owners are refusing to keep a world-class player like that who seems to want very much to stay at Liverpool there is an enormous problem. Does anyone remember how the match against Milan went last year? A freak accident on a free-kick was the best their attack had mustered until Mascherano was taken off Kaka and out of the game. If his fee is the 17m over the whole 5 years, this shouldn't be a huge problem. Whether it is or isn't, Rafa says he's got a place on this team, so the owners should be singing the same tune. That is where the problem is.

Why is it a stupid fee? Kia Joorabchian is out to get as much money as possible and would argue that if Owen Hargreaves and Michael Carrick (both of whom are not 1st choice for England) are both worth £17m+, then surely Javier Mascherano who is an regular in the Argentine national team is worth just as much.

If Liverpool don't pay the £17m, you can bet that another top club will.

150 years ago ? Where have you been ? We've got a slave each around my way. I'm fed up with them.

Ferguson would love El Jefe no doubt about it, throw into the fact he'd be swiping him off us would be too much for Demento to turn down.

I hope its just a rumour put out to scare T and G into giving Rafa the money for him.

According to whiskynose, they aren't buying or selling in January.

I would sell Momo, Gutrie and Spearing none of whom can lace Mascharanos boots, just as long as we keep Mascha, who is the best player doing the job that he does in the Prem and probably europe.

Spearing? Why would you needlessly sell a kid with lots of potential for peanuts?

Mascherano: I want to join Tevez at Manchester United

On loan Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano admits he wants to join his former teammate at Manchester United with a permanent move to Liverpool unlikely to occur as the American owners are baulking over the £17m price tag set by MSI.

Mascherano - A target for United, Juventus and Real Madrid - wants to play alongside countryman Carlos Tevez once again after their adventures at Corinthians and West Ham.

The holding midfielder, rated at £17million, said: "I would like a new adventure in England because as each day passes it is looking more and more unlikely that I could remain at Liverpool.

“It’s simple,” Mascherano said. “With the time that has passed, it will now be more difficult for me to stay here because I need to do something about my future. It is a really difficult situation because I have been talking a lot about how I want to stay here, but it doesn’t depend on me. I have done everything to stay but the owners have to decide if they want to buy.”

Manchester United boss Ferguson has always been an admirer of Mascherano and considered signing him last summer, and it is being rumoured that he will willing to pay the asking price to land him now.

Mascherano added, "I would be happy to play for any of the other big clubs in England if Liverpool do not sign me permanently, but to play alongside Carlitos as well as people like Rooney, Scholes and Ronaldo would be my biggest dream of all."

Please tell me that's a wind up.

This would be completely our fault. The lad wanting to stay where he is and still play for a big side is completely understandable. How can the Yanks not see that he needs to be secured?

I don't care who's fault it is, if that last paragraph is correct he's vermin as far as i'm concerned, however i'll wait for confirmation.
