I have to say that I think Carvalho is the outstanding defender in the country despite being a horrible, sly, shirt pulling twat. His reading of the game, positional sense, use of the ball and defensive qualities make him the best in my eyes. Gallas runs him close.

I've gone for Gallas, as he's got everything you need. He's fast, good in the air for a relatively small guy, great in the tackle and he's a threat at corners as well (which is a bonus).

 

I don't really like him for some reason, but you can't question his quality.

 

I'm happy with Carra and Agger though - I don't think there's much difference between the top defenders in the Premiership. It's at the other end of the pitch where the differences are more noticeable.

Carvalho for me, he's quality and manages to be a dirty bastard without refs noticing, a very handy quality for a centre back

Agger. He's been better than Carra for the last year imo, never gets any coverage and is as good on the ball as anyone. Also, he doesn't cost you 5 goals a season with fuck ups like Ferdinand.
