Super Groups

I thought of a good idea for a thread last night - and then realised that the BBC had already beaten me to it. Nevertheless, what would be your fantasy super group line up? Here's mine (on a soul/funk tip):

Drums: ?uestlove from The Roots. He can do funk, jazz and "just knock fuck out of the kit" styles.

Bass: Flea from the Chilli Peppers for his manic funkiness. Plus, anyone who dedicates himself to the bass guitar to the extent that he has a permanent string-sized groove in his thumb that he has to plug with superglue so he can play, has to be in.

Rhythm guitar: Paul Weller. Not good enough for lead, but his rock/soul versatility would be an asset for my band, as would his vocals.

Lead Guitar: Prince. He could actually play anything, but I'm sticking him on lead.

Keyboards: Stevie Wonder, obviously.

Horns: Maceo and the Macks. If they were good enough for James Brown, George Clinton and Prince, then they're good enough for me.

Strings: The Love Unlimited Orchestra. Barry White built virtually everything he wrote and produced around their sound.

Backing vocals: Barry White (for the low notes), Curtis Mayfield (for the high ones), Mary J. Blige and Chaka Khan (both for their raw/sweet versatility).

Lead Vocals: Aretha Franklin

Bez: Michael Jackson

I think I'll also throw Frank Zappa in as producer, just to see what nutty madness he could create with that array of genius.

Also, my hip hop super group - although this is a bit pointless as they all tend to work with each other anyway (I'd like to hear an album by this lot, though):

Beats/production: Madlib, Doom and 9th Wonder

Flows: Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Q-Tip & Jean Grae (with Doom guesting on the mic as well as the beats)

Beats? Has to be Ant, Khrysis and Kev Brown/Pete Rock. To each his own, I suppose.

I'd go with:

Drums: Matt Tong. I personally don't think I've seen a drummer so integral to a band's sound, and a sound that I love. Excepionally good drummer.

Bass: Flea

Lead Guitar: Frusciante

The above kind of goes together as a package and anyone who has seen them live can attest to their ability to keep a stadium audience in awe with their jamming. Also both technically brilliant with their instruments.

Computery shit: Greenwood

Decks: Shadow

Backing vocals: Franklin, Gaye, Robinson, Jonsi Birgisson (Sigur Ros), Beth Gibbons

Additional vocals: Tricky, Daddy G, 3D.

Lead Vocal: Yorke - In my opinion the finest voice I've heard.

Additional Orchestration: Bacharach & David

That would be one hell of a fucking mess when put together but you get the point.

Drums: Nelson Mandela

Bass: Robert Mugabe

Rhythm Guitar: Gordon Burns of North West Tonight and Krypton Factor fame

Keyboard: Marlon Brando

Lead Guitar: Benito Mussolini

Lead Vocals: Jermaine Jackson

Additional Vocals: The Suger Hill Gang and Moira Stewart

Caely Drum: Gerry Adams

Computer Stuff: Steven Hawkins

Good choice on Hawkins:

Fitter Happier....

..more productive

comfortable

not drinking too much

regular exercise at the gym (3 days a week)

getting on better with your associate employee contemporaries

at ease

eating well (no more microwave dinners and saturated fats)

a patient better driver

a safer car (baby smiling in back seat)

sleeping well (no bad dreams)

no paranoia

careful to all animals (never washing spiders down the plughole)

keep in contact with old friends (enjoy a drink now and then)

will frequently check credit at (moral) bank (hole in wall)

favours for favours

fond but not in love

charity standing orders

on sundays ring road supermarket

(no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants)

car wash (also on sundays)

no longer afraid of the dark

or midday shadows

nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate

nothing so childish

at a better pace

slower and more calculated

no chance of escape

now self-employed

concerned (but powerless)

an empowered and informed member of society (pragmatism not idealism)

will not cry in public

less chance of illness

tires that grip in the wet (shot of baby strapped in back seat)

a good memory

still cries at a good film

still kisses with saliva

no longer empty and frantic

like a cat

tied to a stick

that's driven into

frozen winter shit (the ability to laugh at weakness)

calm

fitter, healthier and more productive

a pig

in a cage

on antibiotics

Technically it wasn't the severely disabled, black hole spotting genius Stephen Hawking on lead vocals for Fitter Hapier, it was the default "Fred" voice on apple plaintalk but I'm sure as a fellow 'head nut you knew that!!
