Defender, midfielder or attacker? Which position do we need someone in?

If we were to have a budget of £40m to buy just one player in January, what position would you like to see us focus on?

But just based on one player in i would still go and get a big mobile 6 who can sweep up and cover sideline to sideline. Then i'd recall Phillips or van den Berg to cover Matip and push Quansah into Matips minutes

You’re right that we could be caught out there. Haven’t voted yet though as an attacker could be even more effective, especially given how awful Salah was after the last ACN. 
 

I’m still leaning 70/30 towards a defender.
 

We’re probably okay in midfield, comparatively.

A physical athletic, big, number 6. We need a presence there. The amount of work we expect our right sided centreback to do seems insane.

2. A world class 6 (who can step back and cover RB when trent pushes forward

Defender for me and we can juggle the pack to help other areas. Trent could go to the 6 position and free up a midfielder if we get short in midfield. And there's never a time where a forward doesn't look a bonus, but if Jota is back for the new year when Mo is away at afcon, we should be ok.

I've voted defender but it's a bit pointless as I'd be surprised if we bought anybody at all except maybe a youngster or two.

Definitely a defender. I would keep Quansah where he is and not worry about moving him across to the right side at this point. Virgil's understudy is perfect for him right now.

 

We have to cover Matip, konate will also pick up knocks.

Things are looking fairly good now, after the midfield transformation in the summer. Still I feel a world class DM could really take us to a completely different level. 
 

Look at the importance of players like Rodri and Guimaraes to Abu Dhabi and Saudi. And Arsenal with and without Partey before Rice arrived.

 

If we had Rodri or Guimaraes we’d be favourites for the title imo, a player like that would improve is massively.

 

Defence and probably attack needs new players as well, but can probably wait, and the key to really improve the first 11 lies in DM.
