Still not convinced our bidding for Lavia was serious, never mind Caicedo.

One we could have had if we'd have stumped up another £4/5m but somehow we couldn't do it, thinking he was worth £46m but not £50m. And the other was an absolute non starter and we knew it.

Was gonna be easy to replace Fabinho, though, eh. Who saw that coming.

That deal may prove disastrous.

The Fabinho thing was false economy anyway, as any midfield target we were lowballing in May and June instantly had their asking price raised when we sold to the Saudis.

Due to the position we are now in, we need to overpay and the owners needs to cop for it. Go and put down 130M for Tchoumeni and give him 200k a week. Will it work? It might not, but the reality is that money talks.

Even if we had a bid accepted - which we won’t - he’s not going to want to come here for that. I suspect we’d have to offer a player of that calibre a Salah beating wage to get him to consider us.

I completely agree, I forgot it was 2023. Throw 300k at him. I don’t think he will come regardless but we need to do something.

Do I think that’s sensible? No, but this is the position the club have forced themselves in. Final years of Klopp, VVD, Salah, Allison, if this season doesn’t go the right way we are back to the Brendan Rodgers days.

Salah and Allison don’t hang about for another year of no CL or trophies. Klopp himself today said we need CL for the financial health of the club (what an utter fucking joke that is and it tells a separate story) and I think he walks away because it’s impossible to fix this without money.

Yeah that was a strange quote considering we’ve been in the fucking thing for 6 years!

If the plastic flag waving tories get caicedo and lavia they will be very close to having signed 1bn worth of players last season and this....

Unreal

And probably go and sign another forward and a keeper before the month is out too…

Oh, absolutely. I’m expecting Salah to go next season regardless, but we won’t hang on to a player of Alisson’s calibre unless we spend big on players who’ll return us to the CL this time around.

Funny how the mega clubs like Arsenal, Man Utd and Tottenham can weather the lack of CL and still comfortably outspend us who are relative paupers even when we’re winning the fucking thing.

That wasn't my argument at all. Anyone with eyes could tell Fabinho was bad last season. My point was his departure left us in a really bad position in the market, and it has. The following month has proven that. We have absolutely fluffed two deals and got posterized by a league rival in the process.

Whatever we do to replace him now is likely about our 5th choice.

Indeed.  But ultimately that would only matter if that 5th choice is not a significant improvement on Fabinho.

Based on what I saw today I don't think Lavia is the right option at all. We need someone a bit older and with more experience.

No idea who though?

If the mancs are going for zonana then Amrabat. He's mobile, decent on the ball and experienced. He knows when to slow things down and win time wasting freekicks like Didi did.
