Against weaker opposition our full backs bomb forward and give us the width and crossing which leads to goals. They are bound to get caught out now and again when the opposition breaks. I wouldn't worry, against the better teams the defence will have a better shape. Klopp and the players know what they are doing.

Woah, there.

I don't want him (or Gerrard) anywhere near our manager position because of the weird thing they have about bigging up England players and Scousers in particular over much better foreign players, but to call him a wanker is harsh in the extreme.

It's not.  In fact it's not nearly harsh enough.

Could see Gomez getting alot of work at RB if Trent doesn't sort his shit out soon.

Overall we looked great going forward for the most part. Defensively we need to sort it out, VVD was his usual self but Trent in particular gets caught out a bit too much. Gomez was solid and I think he'll be first choice this season even if Matip finished last season strongly and it's a bit harsh for him. Fabinho is our best midfielder for me and it's not even close, once we figure out who offers the most around him we'll be settled there and our front 3 picks itself when everyone is fit.

Losing Alisson for any length of time is a problem but if the defense gets it together it's one we can mitigate. Offensively, when we're clicking no one can keep up with us, so as long as the boys are clinical or the keeper isn't doing their "best game ever against Liverpool" routine we'll score goals.

Gomez was poor.

If it was just this game I wouldn't bring it up. This is the problem now, you criticise anything and people jump on things like your having a right go. He has not been switched on all preseason and has been caught out on a fair few goals in preseason and caught out a few times again tonight. Teams are obviously trying to exploit it and it's getting them chances. If he doesn't switch on what happens when we play a team that will have better players.

Didn’t think Gomez was that bad, either. He got caught out a couple of times by a clever striker playing off the shoulder. No big deal, really. But people will make mountains out of molehills since there’s not much else to actually complain about

Fair enough, he was sloppy a few times in possesssion too but it’s early days. Unless Matip has a knock he should play in my opinion. But then I like Matip. Opinions.

I agree. But we will get better and sharper defensively as a unit as we play more games and against better sides. I would have Matip starting, for sure

By the way, as crap as our defending was, that was maybe one of the worst defensive performances I've ever seen from Norwich. They were so bad. No aggression, no composure, their centre halves were shanking the ball left and right. I mean, wow, they are in for a world of hurt if this is their level.

He looked sharper than anytime I've seen him last season, including Barcelona. Outside of his goal, he actually looked a credible alternative option for front 3.

Opinions,eh. While he obviously wasn't crap and can do a job for the team, out wide he is a major drop off from Mane. His pace and knack of scoring important goals are a big asset but I think he often switches off out of possession and can look frustrated with his role at times. Much better option than Sturridge for me though.
