I think a recent survey of attempted migrants suggested most of them simply spoke English or had contacts in Britain hence their preference for landing here. It's hardly the land of milk and honey for benefits claimants is it ?

Rico's offerings on here are a new low even for him.

I think that’s lifted from an episode of the Wright Stuff.  She doesn’t mention what happens to those who might not agree with her, or those that start off agreeing and then change their minds.  I think that’s when it starts getting a bit, murdery. Or even when people want to decide if everyone has had enough and start to ask for elections.

Assuming that an intelligent person whose political commentary tends to emphasise humanity and compassion would "get a bit murdery" is a hell of a leap, even for you.

From my extensive studies (i.e. half an hour on Google) it seems that Sarkar identifies as a Libertarian Communist - a philosophy which rejects violence and oppression (and, historically, opposed the Soviet Union, etc).

Another not too bothered by elections then?

More, er, right wing bias at the BBC.

https://www.thejc.com/news/uk/senior-bbc-journalist-used-pseudonym-account-to-back-attacks-on-emma-barnett-after-shoah-speech-1.506092

A senior BBC World News journalist used an anonymous social media account to support attacks on the organisation’s Jewish presenter Emma Barnett after she spoke out about the personal impact of antisemitism on her life.

The ones who don't agree generally just jump on a private jet and go somewhere else. Better hadn't use a raft or a dinghy though.

You can get extreme forms of any politics, capitalism or socialism, the best countries are the ones that seem to blend them both together, post war Britain and the States (where the rich paid 90% tax without batting an eyelid) and the current Scandinavian countries, I think in Norway they pay about 50 quid to go to uni and nobody begrudges it because they say they 'see the benefits of living in an educated society'. It's mad hearing people say sensible shit like that in the open without being put through the Daily Mail or Fox News wringer.

One thing about modern extreme capitalism though is that it's got tremendous PR, it has to be said. We're in  the midst of the second big gank and grab with Covid contracts literally going to people's mates and people are sat at home watching Netflix and having a wank.

Aye, those grim Soviet era towns were people worked in shit jobs, lived in substandard housing and had nothing else to do in their downtime but drink. Oh wait.

Someone made a good point recently that what's being branded 'left wing' is actually comics having a go at the government/royals etc because when we slag people off for humour, we do it upwards - not downwards.

Presumably a 'right wing' comic would be having a go at, what? People on the dole? Single parents? Even people who find that quitly funny wouldn't admit to it in an audience.

By this standard, Bill Hicks ripping on illiterate waffle waitresses could be right-wing?

Needless to say the new woke generation of comics who wouldn't be fit to lace Hicks' boots have had their say.

Was watching a preview of the Edinburgh fringe last year and they had a woman and a bloke on, both comedians, both said their sets were about toxic masculinity. Sounds boss.

Sounds more like a lecture than stand-up. Grim.

I think I've said previously that my biggest problem with the hard left is their wretched humourlessness. Everything is always so, so serious.

Well someone's got to be.

Maybe if the hard right didn't think that playing with people's lives and livelihoods was all jolly japes then the left could ease up a bit.

If only there was a happy medium between being deadly serious and treating everything as one big joke. You could all meet me there.
