Summer 2017 Transfer Thread

£160k shouldn't rule us out though, I know your probably right but it shouldn't, when your paying Sturridge £140k Kante for £160k is a no brainier. Sell all the shitty backups and use their wages, Kante doesn't seem to miss games being injured. Sell Lucas and Stewart and don't buy Wijnaldum and there's his wages and most of his transfer fee, I'm not saying he'd have definitely come here but we could have even offered him more money than that, it's proven that a specialist in his position wins you leagues.

I felt the exact same with Suarez. He signed that contract on a reported £200k pwk in the winter, that didn't kick in till the following summer, while the mancs were putting shite like Rooney on 350k instantly. If we had any bollocks we should have put Suarez on more and gave him the monies we'd have saved on Aspas, Alberto and all the other shitbags wages we got shut of that summer. We should have got 1 more season out of Suarez (even though he was banned for the start again) as his value was never going to drop.

Instead, we done what we always do and followed the lets be cleverer than the big boys mantra and spread a million quid per week on more shite

With the exception of Leicester and Kante I'm struggling to think of any other examples unless I go back to Chelsea with Makelele.  Arguably City with Fernandinho?

Matic? think there was only the mancs when they last won it with Carrick who won it without one

I don't just mean in the premier league, you've got Busquets at Barca etc City had De Jong, he's not the best but is effective at what he does, Utd always had one whether it was Keane, Carrick, Hargreaves. It does make a massive difference from players just waltzing through the middle, just being there with a bit of a defensive nous will stop teams straight away.

Even though he's a "DM" don't think he's the sort of quick, intelligent player Kante is but he's certainly an upgrade on whatever we've had there for the past decade

Yeah get your point like, it's certainly an advantage which protects the defence

I got the Willian one because Chelsea were in the champions league at the time but with Kante, Chelsea aren't in it and wasn't guaranteed to be with a new manager that could've taken a season to settle if at all.

It's because they're a side that's proven over a lot of years to be at the business end of the competitions, near the top of the league, always in the Champions League, pay big wages, sign big players.  In the modern-day sense, they're a big club.  We aren't.

Fella in the shop had the radio on and they were discussing Leicester's collapse. Thinking about it, I wouldn't mind us going in for Schmeical as a replacement for Mig the merciless and Vardy as a replacement for Ings / Origi. I know I've moaned about getting lower teams players but they've won more than our lot. Also seen this morning that Lacazette is moving on this summer and as we won't go anywhere near Aubemayang or Griezmann, he would do us ok and probably wouldn't be much dearer as what we'd get for Sturridge .

Mahrez is a superb player, would be great here for unlocking the bus parkers.

Agreed, but who makes way for him though. Cant see him getting in front of Mane and they both play on the right. Im hoping we go balls deep for Reus or similar for our left hand side and he's using the budget for this

We have a manager that should be able to attract world class players and everyone could see the improvement we made under him last year so it was likely an attractive proposition but in hind sight he made the right call, Chelsea are strolling to the league and with a few decent signings could do very well in the champions league next season.

This season was the first in how many years they missed out on the CL? On the other hand, we've been 1 in 6 seasons isnt it? hardly difficult to figure out which one kante thought more likely to be in the CL in the following seasons, is it?

On one hand Leicester have a winning pedigree that most of our players lack, on the other hand they're also a bunch of fucking shit houses in the midst of a relegation battle.

Schmeichel and Vardy wouldn't improve us greatly nor have the potential to do so. I like Schmeichel but he's just Simon Mignolet with a lot more character. Vardy is a no for me. Mahrez is interesting. He's having a flounce this year because he never got his big move but at the right price and under the right circumstances he's a match winner. At £25m it'd be a no brainer, in a league where Ibe is worth £15m I could live with taking that sort of punt on Mahrez.
