Actually there is significant change happening at local level. Our CLP (Walton) has seen significant change. A lot of the old guard who were supportive of the Anderson era have been replaced with younger, active and organised members who are out canvassing virtually every weekend, and who have lent significant support to both the bus strikers and the campaign to keep train guards locally.

Some other CLPs have faced significant difficulties in getting changes through - Wallasey and Riverside have not only had to fight incumbents, but also their own Blairite MPs, and the party machinery under McNicol. Change takes time, but it is coming, slowly, and it may take a couple of cycles of councillors to get there, but we will get there.

Would the Greens not be an alternative for you? And yes I am a green party member!

They're certainly an alternative. I like everything they stand for. To be fair to the Lib Dems they ran the city quite well when they had power. Labour has been a shambles.

Anubis at his last Labour meeting.

Our council tax has gone up a fair whack, nice to know it will be paying for evertons new ground.

As much as I hate Anderson, the council tax hike is as a result of government cuts. Liverpool have been using its reserves to try and maintain essential services for two years. Don't let your antipathy for Anderson blind you to the much bigger fish.

Oh I don't doubt that, but I also don't doubt the council's ability to mismanaged things either. More student flats i hear you say, yet students pay no council tax.

There can be no place for internal party politicking. Not when we still have one in three children in this city growing up in poverty and when we have lost two-thirds of our government grant.

But there’s money to fund a training ground and stadium for Everton.

Fucking prick.

Anderson's biggest problem, like Rotherham, is that they're basically drastic overachievers who've harnessed the power of Scouseness to appeal to Scousers. Like the way Texan senators walk around in cowboy boots.

Both of them are intellectually mediocre at best, not particularly good at working with others by all accounts, there's no clear vision or direction for what they're trying to do, but when the cameras are on they're good at shaking their fist, bashing Tories and unleashing some footy bants.

Only Liverpool could send a talented Scouse mayor to govern greater Manchester and end up stuck with this abject pair of helmets.

In one, Mark. But they get voted in.

Rotherham and Anderson aren't the best or the brightest but you really must tell me more about the 'Talented Mister Burnham' and the qualities that he kept so well hidden as an MP and cabinet minister.

You only have to look at the utter morons who post on the Echo Facebook comments to know the majority of them couldn't handle anyone from outside Liverpool being mayor. If someone from the Wirral or Ormskirk became mayor it would be more important for them that this person didn't have a purple wheelie bin growing up than creating 10,000 jobs for the local economy.

People still think the Echo is written in Manchester and that it's biased against scousers. Even though the Echo office is in Old Hall Street and it is printed in Oldham.

Sadly social media has given voice to morons everywhere, If it were still letters to the editor 90 percent of them wouldn't understand the concept of buying a stamp let alone written English .

If he'd have had the balls to vote against the Austerity bill he would be Labour leader now , but he kow-towed to his Red Tory colleagues and cowered away from the needs of the great majority of people in this country, so bugger him.
