Does anyone have some advice on where I'm best getting one of these from?

Had a look on the web but can't see anywhere selling them that's familiar so not sure who to go with.

I've been having a problem with XP booting up, it's going to the Safemode options screen but when I select safemode it just goes back to the options page.

I can get access to recovery console without the start up disk but need one to copy files over going by what I've read online.

I only want to get my documents off the disk and then I'm getting a new machine but I really need the documents

Alternatively does anyone have any idea if I can get the documents off the system without booting windows? That's all I want to do really

Can you not yank the drive and connect it to another computer as a D drive rather than a boot drive?

I have a kit like this: Sabrent USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA Cable for 2.5-Inch/ 3.5-Inch / 5.25-Inch Drive with Power Adapter at TigerDirect.com

which makes it a piece of piss.

When I get a new computer I'll usually install the old hard drive if possible. There's always something that didn't make it into My Documents that you need.
