LFC approach Wigan for martinez

FSG were quick in admitting early doors they knew fuck all about football. Chasing a relegation dodger with the aim in mind being Champions League, when there are proven managers available with winning mentalities, smacks to me of them STILL knowing fuck all about football.

If that McDonalds drive-thru worker lookalike becomes manager then it will prove that Liverpool obviously did not heed the harsh lesson that was dished out the last time a flavour of the month manager was brought in.

YES,YES and thrice YES.

Think people are being very naive if they believe FSG are making this decision blind. David Dein and Brian Barwick have both supposedly advised them on matters over the past 18months, and I'm sure other football people are working on behalf of the club to. You don't get to where they are if you are a fool, they have readily admitted football is still a massive learning curve for them, so they'll have people close to them advising. To suggest anything else is ridiculous to me.

The idea that Benitez - or anyone, including the player himself - knew all along that he would turn into a reasonably competent defensive midfielder is risible.

All the while he was stinking out Anfield, we had a litany of excuses to explain how poorly he was playing: he was young; Gerrard/ Alonso/ Mascherano wasn't the right partner; Benitez was playing him in the wrong position; he was being held back by not playing far enough up the pitch - HE WAS A BOX TO BOX MIDFIELDER YOU KNOW!

The problem was that Lucas was too slow, too ponderous in possession, lacked the requisite skills and passing range and couldn't score goals. So eventually, both the player and Benitez realised that he'd NEVER be able to play any other position, so DM is where he ended up, once he learned how to tackle a bit better.

So, eventually, we have, at best, a reasonable DM player. Great. Well worth all that time and effort.

nearly completely agree. What you said was all true apart from the bit saying we have a reasonable DM. He's a LOT better than that now. When you can boss games against city and chelsea with ease you're not reasonable.

Out of interest who do you think is better at that role in Prem?

Three months ago John Henry was on the phone with Paul Tomkins asking how to critique Damien Commolli.

That's who we've got running the show at Anfield.

Do you genuinely believe this?

And whose word do we have on this being true?

He, or someone, has probably spoken to Tomkins the same as with Alan Kayll, but that's a big leap to them advising. Keep a couple of potentially influential people on side and suddenly they're seen as advisors.

I hope Martinez surprises me if he gets it.

I'm really worried that in 3 years hehasn't made Wigan any better and hasn't improved their defence at all. That shows he doesn't know how to construct a side to be solid at all.

Surprises can be both good and bad. I'm sure he'll surprise us all.

With you supporting us we have fallen from greatness.

Code out.

I've got 3 European Cups, 1 UEFA Cup, 6 League titles, 5 FA Cups and 8 League Cups in my locker, not that bad is it?

I guess this is one of the reasons I'm not all that impressed with Rafa's two contributions in 6 years time to that collection.

Was it a coincidence that we reached two cup finals this season with Lucas being out injured, we'll never know obviously but I'm throwing it out there anyway.

What a load of complete nonsense, and you know it too.

OK, since you started posting on the internet, we fell from greatness.

You might try to wriggle, but I lay the blame firmly on your shoulders young man.

I agree. I am critical of FSG, but i am not critical of them talking to people to canvass opinion. That does not mean that any of those individuals are movers and shakers.

The more worrying development at the moment is the possibility that Ian Ayre cannot persuade martinez to join us. Says it all really.

If Ayre fails to persuade Martinez to join us,it'll be the best thing he's ever done for the club.

No it's not.

Firstly Lucas was bought, picked, and played by a man who knew exactly what he was doing.

Secondly Martinez will be picked by a board who know nothing about the game completely overhauling the management structure of the club to do so, about to install one of the most arrogant & singleminded men in the game as DoF and expecting a manager to just get on with it.

So no it's nothing like it was with Lucas.

I meant it in the same way that people were not giving Lucas a chance before he proved everyone wrong. The amount of grief he used to get off some fans was embarrassing. There seem to be a lot of people who seem to be able to predict the future when it comes to whether Martinez will do well if given the job.
