Or is everyone else surprised that Hodgson hasnt been on the tele giving his side of events about his sacking? I thought we would have seen him on Goals On Sunday or Football Focus one of the weekends. I know its only been 2 weeks, but i expected him to at least say something.

As much as he failed here, I think he has a bit of class about him and realised in the end it just wasn't working out.

Plus there is no need for him to give his side.

I expected him to have a pop at the fans. He did it after the Wolves game, but if done it now he'd have nothing to lose.

He was a man under pressure at the time. He was very complimentary about the club and supporters when it was announced that he would be leaving the club.

Sorry it's not Roy Hodgson, ruddy hell it's Xabi Alonso but should provide a distraction until relic Roy's rivetting revelations really rouses a rabbling row. It's not an owl but henjoy.

Xabi Alonso has paid a glowing tribute to Liverpool supporters and admits the time he spent at Anfield will always have a special place in his heart.

The Spain midfielder quit Merseyside for Real Madrid before the start of last season and has impressed as much in La Liga as he did in the Barclays Premier League.

But back in an environment where supporters are quick to wave white handkerchiefs of surrender in a show of dissent against the clubs they love, Alonso remembers a very different attitude from The Kop.

You'll never walk alone: Xabi Alonso has declared his love for Liverpool supporters

'To play for Liverpool is something very special,’ he told the Spanish editition of Vogue magazine.

‘There is a very intimate connection between the fans and players that doesn’t exist at other clubs.

Good times: Alonso's wife, Nagore enjoyed her time in Liverpool

‘Even in bad times, the stands do not whistle, instead they sing, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.’

The 29-year-old’s wife Nagore has equally fond memories of her former home after making the life-changing decision to move when Alonso moved from Real Sociedad to Liverpool in 2004.

Nagore, who had their first child Jontxu on Merseyside in 2008 and has since added daughter Ane to the family, said: ‘It was the best move I made (coming to Liverpool).

‘The relationship went a step further. I had been working on a film production team (at the time), but I packed my bags and went.’

And while many WAGs worry that their partners will appear in lurid newspaper headlines, she has few fears about the man she married eight years ago.

‘I can’t complain,’ she said. ‘I am lucky - Xabi doesn’t go to parties. He spends all his free time with us. After a match or training, he comes straight home.’

Liverpool fans may wish he never left them and there is still a bond with his old club.

Alonso was a surprise visitor to Anfield when Liverpool beat Aston Villa 3-0 in December and, earlier this month, he sent new Reds boss Kenny Dalglish a good luck message via Twitter.

To be honest, id say a PR person at the club knocked up that statement, and if he had any input I doubt they'd let him put his own ideas in it. Deep down, the man didnt like us and we didnt like him.
