This deserves its own thread.

George Gillett and Tom Hicks stand to lose £144m from Liverpool | Football | guardian.co.uk

The Liverpool co-owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, stand to lose their £144m loans in Liverpool if the proposed sale of the club to John W Henry's New England Sports Ventures group goes through next week.

The deal with Henry is valued at £300m which incorporates £200m to repay debt owed to the Royal Bank of Scotland, £40m to cover non-banking liabilities and £60m in debts relating to the planned development of the proposed new Anfield stadium in Stanley Park.

This leaves no room for the repayment of the loans which Hicks and Gillett made to Liverpool, which stood at £144m on 31 July 2009, the date of the club's last published accounts. With Hicks and Gillett having been keen also to turn a profit from any sale of their shares in Liverpool, the reality that they are now set to make a huge loss, makes it clear why the Americans are so resistant to the deal with Henry.

The Premier League released a statement this afternoon confirming Liverpool's intention to change owners. "We can confirm that Liverpool FC has formally notified the Premier League of an intended change of control and that the board has undertaken to complete all the necessary processes by Friday 8 October so that the sale of the club can proceed," said a spokesperson.

Legal action is expected to proceed next week to decide on whether the Liverpool board acted validly in completing the sale of the club.

Hey Tom and George:

FUCKING EAT IT

AHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAGAGAHAHAHHAHAH!

That is just brilliant the 2 muppets managed to snooker themselves by putting a board of 5 people and have 3 of them vote against them. You couldn't make that up. And they now stand to lose money it makes me so happy I think i could shed tears of joy.

Thank god they didnt stack the board in their favour otherwise it would have been a nightmare of gargantuan proportions.

Hmm - what about the massive "expenses" of up to £20m a year they have squirreled out? And all the stadium expenses, above the £60m of stadium debt, that have magically disappeared? They have done very well out of owning us, thank you very much: The truth will only out when someone goes through all the books, but it's hard to see that they actually put any money INTO the club, isn't it?

And doesn't the club still owe them money in the form of "loans"?

I think I'd actually rather they broke even., Makes it easier for a Judge to say that they've escaped fairly well and should fuck off now while they have the chance. Given they are broke anyway, they will fight long and hard for £144m.

I just want an end to this whole episode.

In Casino royale with cheese the main argument was that he had to win £150 million dollars quid to get his winnings back for his investors portaxelfolio in one game after the plane petrol lorry clip got stuck on his pants belt. Some people wear a holster for their phone in the same place, an old nokia preferably with one leather black belt slightly worn.

It's not an ice cream van if they ring a bell out the window its going to be the candy floss man which although plagued by wasps sometimes is not the same as the Candyman, theres one that comes round ours monthly called John
