Popular in Canada.

 

Hard to get in the UK, NP. I was in the Domincan a few years ago and took the tour of the Brugal factory. They made me have a straight shot of it at 9am in the morning. It was... bracing.

 

Last time I was in Canada I was in Toronto mainly and a bit in Niagara. State sponsored ale shops in Toronto were ace. Two pint cans of Paulaner and a two pint Stein glass were dirt cheap.

Bought some Appleton Estate because I wanted to try something different to the usual Havana Club dark rum (which is very nice as a neat drink, but a touch sugary).  Wouldn't particularly recommend it, it has a really satisfying smell to it, proper Whisky-ish aspect to it, but the flavour isn't the best, more alcohol than rum...

Their higher price range aged rums are a lot better as far as I recall.

Ice and a drop of lemon and it's not bad at all.
