Toure, Mascherano swap?

Yaya Touré could be in line for a move to Liverpool after his agent claimed that the Barcelona midfielder has already agreed a deal to join a Premier League club.

Chelsea and Manchester United have both been in the hunt for the 27-year-old, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester City where he would link up with brother Kolo, as Barcelona continue to eye Cesc Fabregas.

But after Arsenal rejected a £29million bid earlier this week, the La Liga champions have once again turned their attention to Javier Mascherano after failing to lure the Liverpool holding midfielder to Spain last summer.

A swap deal has been mooted with Mascherano, 25, keen to leave Anfield whilst Liverpool are unable to meet Barca's €36million asking price, but Touré's agent, Dimitri Seluk, has remained tight-lipped until the Ivory Coast international returns from the World Cup.

He said: "If everything goes well, Yaya will go to England.

"But we can't talk about definite clubs. We already have a closed deal, and all will be resolved before the World Cup."

Liverpool supporters also claim that managing director Christian Purslow hinted at a deal for Touré was imminent when he was bombarded with phone calls yesterday following Rafael Benitez's departure.

Did think he was City bound, but if this is true what are peoples views on it?

Toure is a holding midfielder with excellent positional sense Mascherano is NOT .

Eh? That's exactly what Masch is. Toure, is actually, naturally more of a box to box midfielder, but was used in the holding role for Barca, whereas Masch, somewhat ironically is a natural holding player whose always been played somewhat out of position for us. Masch as the holding player in a three man midfield is where he was born to play.

He'd be perfect for Barca.

I've never seen what others obviously see in Toure, he's decent enough, but I think he's made to look better than he is due to the players around him and the time he is afforded on the ball as a result.

He'll end up at City with his brother anyway.

Toure was discussed at @ £18/20m when Arsenal etc. were interested, so we would need a sizeable cash makeweight if this is true.

Masch ( & his wife ) do seem to be looking for a way out so this might be the best solution to ensure the money doesn't all go on imaginary stadium costs.

Purslows making signings now to make us happy. I wonder when hes gonna dust his trackie down and start heading down to Melwood to take the training sessions.

We've been through a lot worse times than this but this seems like a one way road at the moment. Bad, bad, bad followed by another dose of bad.

Don't agree at all, to me he is positionally poor but fans love his energy and ability to get a foot in. Toure is so positionally sound (asis Toulalan) that when asked to fill in at CB they were just as immense. There is nay chay Masc could do the same. As for the barca validation well im yet to see a great signing from pep yet though Villa could easily be it.

Quotes from Mascherano himself in Corriere dello Sport about how he sees himself following Benitez to Milan and that Rafa's style of football has always suited him perfectly.

Also Inter planning a bid for Kuyt according to same paper.

Cambiasso plus cash for Mascherano? Although Cambiasso's getting on a bit...
