Trying to play old games on Vista

Couple I've downloaded install through MS-DOS and it wont let me install citing the reason as "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose close to terminate the application" and gives me 'close' or 'ignore'. Ignore doesn't work, so have to close. Any ideas how I can get this sorted?

You need a DOS emulator like this:

 

DOSBox, an x86 emulator with DOS

I've got that but can't make head nor tail of it if I'm truthful! I have mounted Sim City 2000 directory, but I am a pyar mong when it comes to DOS, any Lamens step by step would be cool as the FAQ and help files require a smidgen of prior knowledge

I've mounted the directory, this is a 'mare. I'll just stick FM on instead
