Liverpool make £10m bid for Gareth Barry

Alves on his own would make a massive difference to the team and he would own that right hand side.

I agree that it would be great to see a proper attacking midfielder/playmaker in the number 10 role and dropping Gerrard into a deeper role is an option but personally although his ego wouldnt allow it i would put Gerrard into Kuyts role as he would be perfect for it.

Gerrard has pace, power and is superb at crossing. The media would never allow it though and this would affect Gerrard much like when he was last playing out there.

Torres has often been too isolated in games against United and Chelsea and he needs a partner, who can provide support and act as a foil. I like the 4-2-3-1 formation and it works most of the time with Gerrard supporting Torres, but against the likes of United, Chelsea and United we need someone with guile who can open up the opposition and pose a different threat. Luis Suárez at Ajax would be ideal.

Gerrard is dying to play back in CM alongside Mascherano.... but with Barry coming in it doesn't look like he will go back there which is a shame.

I am happy Gerrard won't play on the right, I am sick of Gerrard covering for Rafa's transfer failures on the right.

Agree with this.

I would rather we spent any money that we have or can generate, on a real quality player play maker who can chip in with 12+ league goals a season. Ideally, we do need to address the full back situation, but in Arbeloa, Finnan, Aurelio and Insua we have 4 decent full backs already. We need to sign players ready made for the first team. I would rather we spent £20-25m on one player who could make a difference and retained squad players like Pennant, Benayoun & co, instead of spending £25-30m on several players who turned out to be hit and miss.

No we dont we have average fullbacks and not 1 of them would get near any of the top 3 teams and spurs fullbacks for that matter , i'm not gona pass judgement on insua as he could be class but needs a chance. Theres no time for sentiment anymore we need 2 top fullbacks and a top winger and thats were all our funds should be going this summer! Are spine is as good as any in europe theres no arguements there and when agger is back we're even stronger, 2 attacking fullbacks could be all were missing, if we'd signed alves and evra the time we went for them we would have been very close if not champions this season!

If we are going to play this formation on a regular basis then we only need three strikers at the club.

I personally would sell Voronin and Crouch in the summer but we dont need to replace them for another striker and i agree with what has already been posted about us needing a specialist attacking midfielder.

As far as strikers go you have Torres plus if he is injured needing a rest then you can play Babel there and still keep the pace in the team.

I would keep Kuyt at the club as he can play as striker but also on the right hand side so gives Rafa options and from next season we may be seeing more of Nemeth.

Like i said for me Gerrard out on the right playing Kuyts role and a player who knows how to play the attacking midfielder role to perfection like Diego.

I keep saying we should buy Quaresma and Silva imagine the quartet with Torres and Gerrard, Silva already links up well with Torres in the Spanish National Team and Gerrard will not take long to get on their wavelength, they will destroy most teams with Babel as cover, spend it all on those and let them gel and stay and play TOGETHER for years to come, this is the route to winning the league, building a team, keeping it together and letting them play... all the chopping and changing, 5 players in 5 players out etc.. we will never win the league this way.

as for top class full back we dont need to spend £20m on a fucking fullback, Evra cost the Mancs like £7m, Clichy cost Arsenal fuck all and Sagna cost £7m, Alves is far too expensive, if we could get Lahm or Rafinha for 5-7m then all the better otherwise we should just make do

Sell everyone beyond the core and buy those 2 players, that quartet can step up and can play the majority of the season together taking teams apart.

All great suggestions, but with £30m repayments per annum to commit to it is very unlikely that we will be flush with cash to invest in new players.

So lets use our few saleable assets and small amount of money we have on a slow centre midfield player.

As I said earlier, it's difficult to even speculate about what will happen until we resolve the ownership issue. Rashid, you really need to wind your neck in about Gareth Barry because what's the point? You have no idea what will happen this summer and you've made your point already. You don't have to keep making everyone aware that you disagree with potentially signing him.

We get it. Haven't you learnt from the time you were complaining about Crouch?

Me, personally, i'm not totally enthused by Barry but I can see the logic in it if Alonso is leaving etc. It's just so difficult to get worked up about anything regarding transfers though because of the state we're in at the moment. There's far more important issues to be worried about.

We've played 9 league games with that formation since we changed to it. We've won 7, drawn 1 and lost 1.

If we'd had that form all season we'd have won the league by a distance.

NEXT!

You know as well as I do that facts never bite on Rashid.....

And therein lies my problem with Rafa (but also my renewed hope that we can improve next season).

I agree with you to some extent, and I think it's an all important quality in any man to be able to learn and develope. That's what Rafa has done, at least in my opinion. The process he's in is still on course, albeit with some bumps on the road here and there.

It is actually 12 games...

Birmingham

Fulham

Blackburn

Arsenal

Everton

Man United

Reading

Newcastle

West Ham

Bolton

Middlesboro

Chelsea

And we always do well at the end of the season with nothing to play for in the league.

Villa closer to signing Scott Carson

By Mirror.co.uk 19/05/2008

Scott Carson has edged a step closer to leaving Liverpool after Rafa Benitez agreed to drop his £10million asking price to around £6m - with Villa set to land him full-time.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill has already spent £1.75m on Carson as part of the loan arrangement that took him to Villa Park for the season.

Another man leaving Anfield is Harry Kewell, set to be Pompey manager Harry Redknapp's first signing since winning the FA Cup. Redknapp is lining up a £50,000-a-week deal for the Aussie international.

That could see Pompey star Niko Kranjcar move to Arsenal for £10m.

Wonder if this means they've lowered their ridiculous valuation of Barry?

Kewell to Pompey? Good fucking riddance you lazy cunt.

I know this has been said a gazillion times, but I will repeat it once again because I think it can be of great importance of this club.

Most probably we don't have much cash this summer. Even with the normal amount of 15-20m pounds we won't be able to compete with Chelsea and Bennett. Well, I mean we could fluke one season and win it like, but consistently a team with less quality will always be inferior in the long run.

The ShareLiverpool initiative wants to buy the club, and believe me I love the idea and I support their efforts, but. . . . like many on here have pointed out, it isnt really plausible that it will happen. The point I want to make though is that all the effort and commitment from ShareLiverpool doesnt have to be in vain. What if they ask alle the fans who have signed up if they want to take part in a fan-based "MSI" type of company which invests in players and lends them out to Liverpool FC. It could even be set up as a non-league club that buys expensive players and lends them out to LFC on a regular basis, and then fans could play for that non-league team at the same time. Imagine if fans could discuss with senior Rafa who he likes and we could buy for example young talents we believe will be stars in the future. The fans would own the rights for the player and thus we decide when he should be sold. LFC pays his wages (has to be an agreement with rafa and Parry before he is bought) but we sit with his rights. We wouldnt let his contract run out like Parry always does, and he would be our player. If we sold him we would invest in a new player with the prophit of the first player.

ShareLiverpool are in a position to make this reality. And it would enable us to compete on the transfer market as well as making the fans an even bigger part of LFC. Utopia? probably, but I still think it's worth a mention once in a while.
