I think it is a recount of his travels with his amigos who have been given different names. That is just my take on it.

Of course I also think that Zen and the Art of MM and all of Hunter Thompson's work is non fiction. Maybe it is just me.

That said I am fuzzy on the factual content of the Bible so...
