It's a problem that affects VAR in Rugby, when you show replay after replay in slow motion it distorts the event and incidents look much worse than they actually are in real-time.

Yep, and his hand was on the way down well before the actual deflection from the French player. The ball just hit his hand as part of an already ongoing lowering down movement. He definitely did not initiate the movement after the French header. Anyway, the mere fact that it is being heavily debated here and elsewhere is evidence enough that this was definitely not a clear enough decision that it should have been overturned.
