I never minded Phelan that much. Was he at Norwich before Man Utd? He was a modest player for Man Utd, but the sort who seemed like he worked hard to make the most of his opportunity. That must have caught the eye along the way for him to get into the coaching side of it, but obviously it's easy being a bit part player under a successful manager. It's another thing trying to carve that success out for yourself.

I don't know if he has signed a deal at Hull or what. They should offer him the going rate for a lower level Premier League manager, and without knowing the details you get the impression they are having a laugh and trying to get him on the cheap. I would imagine he never earned that much, certainly in comparison to players today, so he's faced with a tough decision to accept a lowish offer, which will probably be a lot of money for him, or reject it on principle.

He might want to sign the deal on offer quickly, because if we turn up at the weekend and do our job, it might be rescinded. Tough couple of weeks for them with Arsenal then us. And if their owners don't know the score about their true level, a couple of bad defeats might see them want to bounce Phelan out.
