Frankly I wish we hadn't bought Henderson, He wasn't cheap, never a captain and one half decent season a couple of years back doesn't justify the investment . Happy to eat my words if he comes out all guns blazing this time but don't see it personally , He will probably be average again , be dogged by injuries and go anyway next year, Hope I'm worng

Never really appreciated him as a player and last season I was pulling my hair out wondering how he was playing for us. That seems to be explained by the injuries and he really comes across like a very committed professional with an excellent attitude. In a better balanced side he could do well or contribute to his part as determined by Jurgen. Good luck Jordan!!

I see Guardiola takes the captaincy seriously as well, he's not naming a captain, he's leaving it up to the players to decide who they want.

Is that taking it seriously? Sounds more like not giving much of a fuck to me and letting the kids play in their sandpit with their own silly titles if they want. Players choosing their captain, much like getting their input on who should be manager, isn't likely to end up with the smartest, most informed decision.

The only problem with the fact that Henderson is captain is that it pretty much makes him an automatic first eleven player, which is not a good thing. He could be (and possibly is) a great leader and captain but it doesn't change the fact that he is an average footballer.

Hendo was more effective than Allen...

Seriously though it's hard to know if he's in Klopp's plans. His energy levels are exactly what Klopp desires in a player, so he could well stay captain and be in the side regularly.

If Klopp is planning to fail, he'll keep Henderson in the team.

He looked brilliant that season where everyone was swept along with the Suarez pisstake show. If he could get back to anything approaching that sort of form then we're sorted. On paper he's the archetypal klopp player. We just haven't seen that player in a long time.

I hate the emphasis on captains. Just put eleven men on the pitch who will give their best and not take any shit. I think it's more of a thing in this country, especially the furore of the national team captaincy, is it the same badge of honour in other countries?

Agreed, in some national teams it's whoever has the most caps.

Freak season. We had a few players who looked good that year who are usually shite.  That's because the opposition 11 were preoccupied with one man.

I think Section nailed it (apologies if it wasn't) with his story about how Hendo would shit out of a fight and then give you a ride home in silence and your missus wonders why you never spoke to him again (or something like that). It was a quality post that seemed to capture the essence of Hendo. Smart, reliable, disappointingly wimpy. Nothing against him but he's the essence of not-good-enough that is permeating the club like a stinking fish. We need only winners and doers from here on in. The fact that he is even mentioned as our Captain speaks volumes about how shite we have allowed ourselves to become. If Bollocktelli did anything at all positive in his time here it was to show us that this guy could never be The Man.
