So many sporting events have had sad events directly linked to people involved in them of late. There were the shootings in Beijing. The death of a competitor in the Winter Olympics and now this. There is always something it seems. Very sad.

You may have a point there. It always seems as though a key figure in the hosting of a major event misses either the opening or the whole event because of circumstances like this. I recall the guy who was the driving force behind France 98 died on the eve of that World Cup. Either way, that is a dampener on proceedings.
