Alexander McQueen

Something profoundly sad about a man who was, by all accounts, a creative and technical genius (and a British one at that - something to be proud of, for once) topping himself at 40.

I wouldn't go that far mate; Tom R is right on this one. I mean for fuck's sake:

What a load of old bollocks. All this bullshit is just another case of the emperor's new clothes.

You don't have to like something to appreciate the talent that goes into it. Take Alex Ferguson, for instance.

Would you go on a night out with a woman wearing those clothes?

These people design the most outrageous clothes so that the media will promote their names by printing photos and commenting on their designs, when everybody is really thinking "Ha ha, what the fucking hell is that?".

To be fair he did make more conservative styles of dresses such as this one, although Anna Pacquin doesn't come with the dress unfortunately.

The outrageous stuff isn't really made to wear; it's a marketing tool designed to sell the high street version of the brand and the perfumes that make the real millions, as well as a way of exercising creative muscles and pushing the boundaries of what's possible. A bit like concept cars in the motor industry, really.

My mate owns a McQueen suit and it's the sharpest fucking thing I've ever seen. You'd think it was made to measure rather than off the peg, the cut is so good. In fact he buys made to measure suits but that McQueen one fits better than any of them. The bloke was a trained tailor and it shows.
