There are so many sub-genres you're sure to find something you like eventually. What appeals about fantasy?

To be honest not a great deal. I like Game Of Thrones but see other posters posting how great their latest fantasy read was and feel like I am missing out.

Nine Princes of Amber has got that whole piecing it together bit by bit feel to it.  Glenn Cook's Black Company stuff if you favored the battle stuff in GoT and Thomas Covenant Unbeliever if you want to see some proper world-building i.e. not some generic middle-ages courts and castles setting.

You lads are way better read it hen I am, at least as far as fiction goes.

What are people’s views on audiobooks?

They don't suit my lifestyle to be honest. If I had to commute or travel a lot for work, I'd be all over them. However, all my listening opportunities are taken up by music.

A couple from this week.

Trainspotting 2 (Porno)

I re-read this not realising it was Porno released under a new name but it was worth it for some very funny passages. My problem with most of Irvine Welsh's post Trainspotting books though is that he can't seem to make his mind up between the gritty reality that made his debut so special and a desire to be comedic which renders most of them just daft. (Ducks)

Prussian Blue - Phillip Kerr

Another decent offering featuring the rascal German detective Bernie Gunther. People were asking about 'series novels' a while back and you could certainly do worse than try this fella. There is a trilogy called 'Berlin Noir' which would be a great place to start.

My only problem with him now is that he's been around so long It's hard to believe he was present at so many different historical events, kind of like a German Paul Nuttall.

Apologies if already mentioned, havent been through the thread.

SciFi/Fantasy books you'll find no better than David Gemmell.

The Drenai series in particular Ive re-read so many times.

Id be very envious of anyone into this genre that has not discovered Gemmell- the books that await you....

John Grisham - The Whistler

Bought this at the airport last week as I wanted something in paperback to read at the beach, there was a declaration on the front saying "The best thriller writer alive" and a sticker saying "Trust Grisham. The best. Bar none."

Well from now on I refuse to believe any stickers, and any plaudits, the book was shit. Slow paced. Nothing at all thrilling about it and nothing really happened.
