You would think it wouldn't be a single tap every 30 or so minutes.

They’re not doing that - there’s a trained deep sea diver from a navy on board apparently, and they are taught to bang continuously for 3 minutes every 30 minutes. Where have you read they are picking up on a single tap?

Ah, just misread it this morning then, the first I read it said a banging sound every 30 minutes.

The banging first came every 30 minutes and was heard again four hours later, the memo states.

It was unclear when exactly the banging was heard Tuesday or how long it lasted, based on the memo.

Here is the official statement:

“RCC Halifax launched a P8, Poseidon, which has underwater detection capabilities from the air,” the DHS e-mails read. “The P8 deployed sonobuoys, which reported a contact in a position close to the distress position. The P8 heard banging sounds in the area every 30 minutes. Four hours later, additional sonar was deployed and banging was still heard.”

Gallo called French explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet, who is one of five people on board the missing vessel, his “very good friend”.

He “is the kind of person that if he were in that submarine, he would think this thoroughly through and would do something like that every 30 minutes”, Gallo said.

“But they have to get moving, get stuff over there right away.”

He said he does not know what the 30-minute intervals between the banging noises could mean.

“PH, my dear, my closest friend and colleague, is out there on that sub and he knows what he’s doing, and maybe he figured that that’s the best way to have them recognise where they are,” he said.

100 years ago his dad might have been on board one.

Nah, the Greek was minted from day one.

As always it is an opportune time, there is never a bad time, to point out he met Elizabeth when she was 8 and started courting her when she was 12.

Allegedly.

His family were exiled from Greece when he was a nipper and he's from a naval background. You do the maffs.

This banging or tapping noise that's been picked up, I'm presuming it's not a Morse Code SOS,  as in ... - - - ... because that would be the most obvious way for the crew to try to communicate and presumably would have been reported.

We’re talking about somebody who has bolted two halves of a metal cam together and is controlling it with a Windows 10 PC and a games controller. I’m not confident he’s know morse code.

He should do a ping. One ping only.

The coast guard are saying it was not banging but merely noise. They are not stating it could be human. They are back tracking after further specialist analysis.

This does not end well.

My money is still on catastrophic hull failure and they all died instantly

Instant death is probably the best way. Fuck sitting there for 40 odd hours knowing you're all going to die.

Knew the Titanic sinking was a conspiracy, that's supposedly where the wreckage is but I've not seen a single fucking iceberg in any pictures.

Open your eyes sheeple.

Indeed, it’s believed by many conspiracists to be The ‘Olympic’ - Titanic’s sister ship.
