He looks done at the top level. Even with the Netherlands who play a pretty conservative 5 at the back, he looks overwhelmed now.

I think sadly this may be true. Obviously the midfield needs major surgery, but I do think we need to be trying to get a top class defender in. Matip is creeping past usefulness, Gomez isn't any good really, Konate still has the jury out, and obviously Phillips and Williams aren't rated.

 

Gvardiol could be the answer but we wouldn't pay the fee and he'll probably end up at City anyway.

 

I think Schmadtke has a hell of a job on his hands, and I'm thinking that FSG aren't going to provide any help.
