Leaving of Liverpool

I'm heading up to Liverpool this weekend to attend a certain sporting event with the arl fella.

He left the city for economic reasons in the late 70's/early 80's, I think for him and a few of his scouse mates who moved out at the same time they find a slight dislocation between what they knew and how the city is now (though of course they are happy that it seems to have bounced back to an extent).

I've often wondered if there is any degree of antipathy for those who left when times were hardest under Thatcher ('managed decline' bawbag) or whether there is a shared empathy?

I'm sure I and many others will go through a similar process as the oil industry declines in Aberdeen, my only fear with that is when in the future I take my kids around there it'll look more like Detroit than a city rejuvenated.

Best Fish and Chips i ever had was in East Ham. Didn't do your Mushy Peas or Gravy like which was to be expected. Didn't do much of anything now i come to think of it, probably why it was so good.

A few days every couple of months is about as much of Liverpool as i need. You can get Brookside and Gerry Marsden on Youtube these days too, so its not all that bad. There is a big bad world out there to see.

THE VINEGAR MAN! WHY DON'T THEY HAVE VINEGAR?

Most mainland European countries don't do Malt Vinegar, I have to order mine from an English shop in Cologne. If I'm lucky the Sri Lankan shop down the City here have it in stock.

I left about 6 years ago (To be fair you could argue I left in 97 when I joined the Army) i'd be back in a heart beat if I could earn close to what im earning now in London though.

I work four on four off so im seriously contemplating coming home and commuting this year as I haven't got a hope in hell of getting on the housing ladder in London.
