I'm hoping he will a substantial improvement myself.

 

I'm hoping he's an improvement on the Kuyt we saw last season. I'm hoping he can match him in his previous seasons for us. Kuyt got into double figures in the first five of his six seasons with us (14, 11, 14, 10, 14). If Sturridge can hit around 14 goals per season from the right, he'll be a decent signing.

Positioning for the front players isn't really a big deal, they're supposed to pop up where they think they should, game intelligence.

 

They'll all play it as they see it, support each other, make the right runs, whether that's left to right or right to left or whatever.

 

What we'll still miss is that attacking midfielder who can benefit and support, keep up with the attackers.

Having never really paid much attention to Sturridge what is his short range link up play like? Seens Suarez thrives on this and it's never really been fully tapped into since Kennys first half season.

What is it about us lot? Shit signings become okay, okay signings become good signings and good signings become revelatory. I'm with you, I think he'll do well. I was 'like him... but' about a week ago.

Where did Simon go? He used to mention Sturridge quite a bit and thought he'd be a top striker, am sure he'll be happy at this if it goes through. I think he can be a great striker too if he clicks with the team, but would rather just wait and see what happens because like Suso, Jonjo, etc, it could take a couple of years before he finds his style enough. Will be glad if we sign him though.

 

I get the feeling he might be in for some stick as he settles down but will start playing well after a while if it happens. I do think we need some more experience though and should also try and get another in if possible.

To be fair, he has already matched Downing's first season league performance in terms of goals and assists. Considering he cost 8m less, that's not too bad.
