I remember when it took longer to type someone's email address than the actual email, and you could only get "online" in military and academic establishments. Then there was usenet. Can remember getting hold of Mosaic with great excitement, but there was nothing to actually browse, so it was just a spangly way of getting at FTP and Gopher in the same box. It wasn't until Netscape Navigator came out that any kind of momentum started. Does all that make me old?
