My head has fallen off reading this...

The Echo doing them no favours with this paragraph though!

Although Liverpool council are not providing any of the funding to build Everton's ground, they are borrowing the cash on behalf of the Toffees because they have a better credit rating than the club.

I hope they build this massive new stadium, because let's be honest how are they going to fill it. They can't fill their 40k piece of crap giving away tickets. There will be no freebies in a new stadium.

They'll fill it and they'll fill it with virtually free tickets if needs be - getting kids in for about 100 quid a season secures that support for years to come....West Ham have done similar

£100 a season tickets don't pay back loans and interest and rent. Unless they sell them till 2250.

People need to start getting their heads around this, they really do.

A Council struggling to pay for essential services is guaranteeing a loan for a private business.

Having already bankrolled their training ground and improvements.

No amount of supposed community benefits or estimated future interest is worth the risk of OUR money. When services continue to be cut not one Evertonian will have a right to complain. Not one.

It's a fucking disgrace and that fat despot is getting away with this because his cronies are shit scared. Cunts.

Everton genuinely have no problem with going cap in hand to get a new stadium. They've tried it for a quarter of a century. The Council will be buying players for them next. Everton supporters live in a dream world and have no pride. If it goes tits up we will be paying it for decades.

Spot on but if a Red says it they're just being "bitter" and their "head is falling off"

A blue would never say it because even though their bins are stinking in the summer being collected fortnightly, their kids can't go to the library because they're shut, if they ever need a mental health appointment they'll wait 3 months, the impoverish areas of the city are crumbling they're going to have a new stadium and it'll make the Red Shite jealous

Read a Guardian article saying that the average household in Liverpool will be £407 worse off a month compared to most Tory stronghold areas in the south East who will be about £50 worse off. This is due to a combination of government cuts and benefits being capped.

The local council has to find another £90m in savings.

Id have no issue with the council doing tbem a favour borrowing on their behalf as it will help tbe city. But all borrowing the council do should be offset but guarantees he gives the council. It'll be the same in tbe summer. They'll sell Lukaku and Barkley spend 130-150ml and he will be bankrolling the biliionaires club when all he will have done is spend half the tv money and spent what the sold.

The idea that football grounds regenerate an area is utterly pernicious and should be fought at every turn. Seriously, no matter how rundown a place might be no one has ever thought "what this place needs is a football ground". And that's before we even consider building one for a fan base that is publicly hostile to the notion of tourists descending on the city. Oh yeah, I know they'll have some cock-and-bull rationale as to why their day-trippers are better than Redshite day-trippers - is there any other type of Redshite? - but for this to work there are going to have be tens of thousands of them at every home game. Be prepared for the bonfire of the jester hats.

They're a fucking joke club, run by cunts for mainly idiots who swallow any old soundbyte they can muster. They gave had to had the council borrow money for them yet they are a rich club ?

You can say it to any Evertonian till they are blue in the face, denial and delusion or outright stupidity reigns supreme at Goodison. They're a young married couple asking their parents to go guarantor on a house deposit. A student after a new car. Someone who can only get one of those high APR cards.

There will be a Joe Anderson statue at the new ground. They'll have to melt Doddy, Cilla John Lennon and Eleanor Rigby for it though. Bronze statue, brass neck.

Most people within a mile of a football ground see it as a massive blight.  I agree with you, this regeneration malarkey is a load of shite.  Anyone spouting that has never been to St Mary's, or Arsenal for that matter.  A few chippys,a kebab van and a couple of the old pubs reopening does not constitute a regeneration.

This is what I don't understand. He obviously isn't as rich as everyone thinks. He just doesn't want to put any of his own money into the club at all yet is viewed as a messiah.

I think its because he's not stupid. Why guarantee it when you an get the local government to do it and have Everton foot the bill? He's there to make money, not give it away.

£407 is a disgrace, you could buy two half season tickets with that.

They haven't got planning permission yet have they.

I am sure there will be objections from city centre shops saying they don't want thousands of football fans decending on there shops during match days especially when these shops want people from outside the city to shop there.

I am pretty sure a lot of people would be put off shopping at Liverpool 1 with thousands of football fans in the area and will instead head the Trafford centre.

I wouldn't imagine that the impact on the city centre will be much - the new ground must be roughly the same distance from the centre of town as goodison is...and all the blues will be approaching it from the north of the city of course....

It's much closer than Goodison it's before Sandhill station. I go past it regularly.
