Where do people stand on the various other snacks at a chippy: Gherkins, pickled eggs, pineapple fritters, buttered roll etc?

I’ve always thought gherkins and pickled eggs in chippies were a southern thing. Pint of ale, packet of a crisps and a pickled egg - sound! Gherkins are boss and I’d have one on the side with fish, chips and peas but not with sausage, chips and gravy.

I love a generously buttered barm. Bread and chips are made for each other.

I’m going to pretend I didn’t see the pineapple fritter bit.

Got in from the match and grabbed a classic cod and chips with mushy peas.  They were just about to close so I got an appalling amount of chips.  Wasn't the best I've ever had, you might even say I'm an idiot for not getting it while still in Brighton... but the chips were nicely done, didn't turn to mush on the walk home at all and the fish was cooked to order.  Nice big piece of fish, tasty enough but I'd have preferred a thicker cut as the batter:fish ratio was a bit off.

The mushy peas were uninspiring and blasted in the microwave, in other words they were spot on.

Worst aspect was the batter was a bit dark, which suggests they need fresh oil in the fryer.

I love picked onions, but have never gone for one from a chippy.  I think the very idea of pickled eggs scared me off.  Especially the state of the ones in my local chippy back in Devon.  Always fairly convinced it was formaldehyde rather than vinegar in those jars.
