We have two fully fit CBs, both on the park, one of whom is Carra so he can't play there. Johnson is just getting back in the squad after his injury. We could go with youngsters but like Rafa will say, every game is too important to risk them on just now, so he chose Masch who did a brilliant job there recently.

I know what your saying but he has stormed in that position when asked to cover there. I would rather have him there than Degan though.

Actually our best CM is playing in centre midfield. Steven Gerrard. Mascherano was fantastic at RB the last time. So good that some were questioning whether he could be converted to a RB. I think having Masch in the back four allows us to keep his defensive superiority without compromising the attacking element of our midfield. After all, Gerrard is now playing where Masch would be and he is much more attack minded.

At this crucial stage of the season it would probably be dangerous risk trying Darby or Degan (disaster sub against Arsenal) so i can understand putting Masch back there as he's very solid. Can't think of anyone else who can fill in.
