Very happy he came on, always wittering on about local lads being given a chance (because this is what liverpool do, look at who we have produced). However, right now he isn't as good as Mash, Alonso or Lucas, saying that though was Gerrard as good as Ince and Redknapp when he first came through, NO! Spearing will hopefull be given more and more oppertunities and will become a great player for us. For now i would like to pat him on the back and say well done, keep your head down and continue the hard work.

He was already better than both by the time he made the 1st team.

But Spearing is not yet good enough to displace Masch, Alonso or Gerrard. I'd rather we give him some minutes rather than Lucas though, and see if he can take Lucas' spot on a permanent basis.

I thought he was invisible for quite some time. Did better at the end.

Nothing spectacular imo, but he did what could be expected from him.

cant agree with that at all, there were moments when he came on when madrid were on top, so he did what he could in being in the right place, harrying and being a nuisance.

Once we got to grips with our new shape with no gerrard he grew in influence. the time where he won the ball and then got fouled but still spread a great ball out wide (to dirk?) summed up his attitude for me. He came on, against top players with big reps and showed no fear and beleived he deserved to be there, and i was well impressed.

what i liked just as much was his organisational play, barking orders to other players like he had been captain for 5 years, pointing to where the spaces were that babel or Masch needed to cover.

that to me tells a lot about him. He wasnt overawed, he was composed, combative and confident. The three C's if you will.

I'm not going to start to believe he deserves to play every week, but he's done himself no harm. It would be interesting to see how he gets on in a game that isnt already well and truly over, where the fans are getting a bit edgy, because that is the situation Lucas has had to deal with a good number of times, and part of the reason he has been in a position to take the flak when things have suffered.

All in all, positive start on a big stage that can only do him good, however it goes on to play out.

EDIT: Just to add, although hype is not the best thing sometimes, my drive home to leeds was a shit with all the roadworks on the M62, so i phoned about 6 mates to talk about the game, and every time i couldnt help but talk about Jay. No-one had a bad game and most played very well, however i didnt mention too many of them individually, but i did Jay, so he made an impression at the very least.

Bit of a message from the Kop to Rafa as well about playing him more especially where the foreign lads get in ahead of him

Good to see Plessis fucked off due to his atitude.[/QUOTE]

Fucked off how?

Has he been loaned out or is he just not being considered for the 1st team?

Unfortunately I missed most of the game is there a link where I can watch the whole game or highlights. My bitter blue mate threw the remote in disgust when he saw the score. Quality!

He'd been training with the first team since the summer, but he was sent back to train with the reserves about a month ago due to his shocking attitude in training and reserve games, and his socialising with Itandje.

Spearing has been training with the first team the last few weeks, so it looks like he's replaced Plessis in the pecking order. Not before time either, Plessis has been a disgrace this season.

Nice to know lack of professionalism isn't just an English trait!

As I said earlier, I think Spearings promotion proves to a certain degee Rafa isn't playing politics with the Academy.

I think we have missed the boat regarding Derby, he should have played in the littlewoods cup and a couple of the earlier matchs and their would have been less risk in playing him against Boro, mind you I think Irwin is a much better prospect than Derby.

Cheers Dave, didn't know that. Thats the risk you take giving some young players a run in the side.

They tend to get too big for their boots and think they don't have to try anymore.

We all know how unforgiving Rafa is and now he'll have to be twice as impressive the second time round to convince Rafa to give him another chance.

I think this is very good for Spearing and the other young players as it demonstrates that Rafa won't take any slack attitude. Its his way or the highway! Now he's got his foot in the door he only has to look at Plessis to know what happens if you start giving it the Billy Big Bollocks.

This is great. A thread about how good it was to see Spearing play last night, which is fantastic. I was made up for him.

Then we get whinging about whether he will play much more. Moaning about Lucas and moaning about it being Dossena who scored the 4th.

Just goes to show no matter what the result, someone will always find something to moan about.

Shocking attitude? Like what?

I don't understand how young players, not to mention young rubbish players, have the fucking nerve to be anything other than in awe of who they were training with, and desperate to work themselves into the ground to impress.

Not going on the piss with that grinning halfwitted cunt Shitandje.

A year ago he played a superb debut against Arsenal when we won at the Emirates IIRC. After a few weeks earlier a call from this very forum (A thread started by ATk IIRC, not usually known to be the champion of the foreign kids, no offence ATK) for Plessis and Insua to get some first team games, as both were playing outstanding stuff for the ressies and I assume he was therefore outshining Spearing at that point.

That he has reacted to the opportunity by pissing it up the wall isnt a good point against his character, but the fact is he had earned that place last year and early this, in the same way Spearing now has. Which is how is should be.

Hopefully, both Spearing and Plessis will take these things in their stride and continue to develop. In Plessis case, that means rediscovering the form he showed in the ressies last year and in that game Vs Arsenal.

We should sell Plessis back to someone in France. They probably won't know about his attitude and will only remember his Arsenal performance.

I think the lad is superb, but that trick he played on Salma Hayek, well, it was cheeky beyond belief and I just hope he had indigestion.

Hayek saw through it, but once she realised who it was she happily gave it up, while singing there's only one Jay Spearing...

One thing I like about young English players - especially at Liverpool - is that they don't give a fuck. He was playing Real Madrid and he was right in there, reminds me of when David Thompson used to come on the pitch and get stuck in, he was like a Jack Russel. You can't put a price on that kind of enthusiasm at times.

Exacltly who he reminded me of.
