They've outlawed foreign investors buying up property as it was sending property prices soaring. Good stuff.

Won't make any difference to the average Canadian, as most foreign buyers are looking at the top of the market. Even in places like Vancouver, they are only around 5% of the buyers.

Where exactly ? I'll be in Sudbury (and surrounding regions) all summer.

The wedding will be near Milton, where they live. We'll probably rent a gaff in Oakville or Burlington for the week.

I've been to Toronto and Montreal before, loved them both.

Took the slow train from Oakville into Niagara, via Burlington, Hamilton and St Catherines last week. When we got into Niagara train station, we walked along the river towards the Falls instead of getting a bus. Stunning day out, my 6 and 9 year olds were in awe of the Falls from the boat.

Did a few other touristy things (CN Tower, baseball game, etc) but spent most of our time in Oakville where we were staying. Beautiful town, especially down by the lakeshore.

The trial for the leaders of the so-called Freedom Convoy protest that gridlocked Canada's capital for weeks in 2022 began on Tuesday.

Tamara Lich and Chris Barber each face counts of mischief and obstructing police.

The two were part of a group that led a convoy of lorries to Ottawa to protest against Covid-19 measures and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government.

Experts say the outcome of the trial could reverberate beyond the courts.

The main charge that Ms Lich and Mr Barber will have to defend is that of mischief, defined under Canadian law as the wilful destruction, damaging, obstruction, or interference of property.

Joao Velloso, a law professor at the University of Ottawa, said legally, the case overall is quite ordinary.

But he anticipates an abnormal level of attention given its tie to the Freedom Convoy protests and the political tensions around issues like vaccine mandates and freedom of assembly.

The outcome of the case will be viewed differently depending on where people stand on these issues and their overall trust in the justice system, he said.

"In that sense, [the case] is bigger than the law itself."

Canada is changing, and some people are having trouble coming to terms with it.

Quote

Currently, annual immigration in Canada amounts to around 500,000 new immigrants – one of the highest rates per population of any country in the world. As of 2022, there were more than eight million immigrants with permanent residence living in Canada - roughly 20 percent of the total Canadian population.

Our population is around 40 million.

As a certain manager would say -- BOOM

A vehicle explosion at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing between the US and Canada on Wednesday.

Crossed the Rainbow Bridge  -  literally.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul couldn't confirm the origin of vehicle that exploded at the US-Canada border and left two dead, but noted “there is suspicion that the vehicle may have originated in that vicinity” of a casino. The vehicle was traveling at an extremely high speed before it crashed, the governor said.
