Some good games to look forward to there, Argentina v Mexico, Portugal v Holland, Italy v Australia, Brazil v Ghana and especially Spain v France. Much like the CL knockout stages, the tournament should start to take off. The do or die element of knockout football usually makes for great games.

Some quality games there to look forward to! I cant wait for the aussie to play italy. Id love them to send the italians back to their scandal-ridden home to face the music early. Spain v France should be excellent, as should Brazil Ghana. I fancy Argentina to win the whole thing though

I have been telling my Italian housemate that I am convinced Australia will do em, 2-1 in extra time with a Viduka goal. He is already depressed thanks to Juventus getting in the shit, this might just drive him over the edge.

Not that I will push him or anything...... I am way too nice to do that

Winners in bold.

I'm going with these:

England v Ecuador

Portugal v Holland

Italy v Australia

Switzerland v Ukraine

Brazil v Ghana

Spain v France

Argentina v Mexico 4-0

Germany v Sweden 2-1

England v Ecuador 2-0

Portugal v Holland 2-3

Italy v Australia 1-0

Switzerland v Ukraine 1-2

Brazil v Ghana 3-0

Spain v France 2-1

The only tie that I am not to confident about (in terms of the winner, the scores are most likely all wrong), is Portugal v Holland - could be a really close match, and given the fact that Scolari likes knocking out Ingerlund it could be even closer.

I fancy the Swedes today for some reason. I also think that Australia have a good chance although Italy will probably just nick the win.

I'm not totally convinced that Spain won't fuck it up either. They have been miles better than the French (cunts) but they have a horrible tendency to mess things up when it really matters.

Either way, that game is the pick of the second round ties, closely followed by Portugal v Holland.

Is your Italian housemate a handsome lothario type?

Not that I'm gay or anything

Ditto.

I fancy the Swiss for a few upsets along the way, although they could meet the Argies in the semi's I think, so might be worth a punt on them finishing 3rd. They seem to have the 'Greece factor' about them. Very well organised and good defensively.

Can see them doing Ukraine, then drawing 0-0 with the Italians and beating them on penalties.
