I reckon we've got a CB lined up already, and I'm basing this on blind optimism.

16/17 and 17/18 seasons we were desperate for attacking backups in January as well. 

 

Scraped over the line with Mane injured in 16/17 but were denied big ears in 17/18 when we had no one to replace Ox or Salah.

If only we could sign players after windows have closed or midway through matches...

From a financial point of view we are a Fabinho injury away from risking even qualifying for the CL. That is £100m right there, if needs be pay Zenit 5m for Lovren on loan for 6 months. We need at least 1 defender, Williams and Phillips is lower championship level.

I have seen from a couple of sources today that it's as good as done that we will have a new CB announced at the weekend.

I'm not sure paying half the fee we sold this player for, for a loan on an injury prone liability defender is a good idea?

Its not my first choice, its an example of the desperate situation we're in, we need someone and cost has to pushed aside.

Phillips was OK when he was called on. We don't need to get another Virgil in just someone who can do the basics

No idea. They did on Van Dijk, but that was after a sale. We’ve not spend that much recently, so hopefully funds are there.

And it's worth remembering fabinho does pick up a few injuries too. He's not a crisp bag like matip by any means, but he misses his share of games, so it would seem pretty unlikely he'll get through to the end of the season without one, even if it's just his normal 4-6 weeks muscle type injury.

Agreed. It’s a disposable transfer fee otherwise. Buy that Ben White lad and be done.

Exactly.  We need someone very, very good.

Neither Gomez nor Matip can be relied upon and who knows how this injury will impact Virgil in future.  We need a clear first choice.  Hopefully Klopp agrees and FSG back him.
