I know the Corbynista cult have no time for Starmer, and that's fine, but it's still pretty fucking shocking to see a large number of them on Twitter promoting the Savile smear, and in doing so parroting both Johnson and the far-right.

Looking at their profiles, a lot of them identify as 'marxist', 'revolutionary socialists' and the like. This isn't 'real Labour', as they would have it, and never has been. They are, or were, the entryists, not the more moderate figures like Starmer.

Probably right wing trolls impersonating the left.

I really don't think it is. It seems they're looking at the treatment their Jeremy got from the press, the right, and Starmer as leader, and have decided that what's good for the goose...

Because it always comes back to Corbyn with this lot.

Seriously though, don’t put it past someone creating fake people on Twitter and trying to destabilise the Tories opponents. This shit has been proven to go on so i’d take it with a pinch of salt personally (as I would do any Twitter comments, in fact I avoid reading them for that reason).

The way corbyn was undermined was unforgivable and the way he has been treated by his own party is a disgrace, but I cant see any too left leaning individual giving their support to boris johnson.

They’re not giving Boris their support, not directly anyway. They’re doing anything to disgrace the leader of the Labour who is the one keeping the former leader out after the damaging, damning report into antisemitism in the Labour Party under his leadership and his comments afterwards.

This Saville thing isn’t recent, it’s just resurgent. It has been used by Corbyn’s supporters on Twitter for ages. Alongside other nonsense about rape and other things. It’s basically an insinuation that Starmer somehow supports rapists and child molesters, which is obviously ridiculous. They’ve both been mentioned on here before, so I don’t think it’s only right wing weirdos spreading fake news.

I agree, I said at the time, i thought he boxed himself into a a corner when diplomacy was still an option.

Those olds with assets will mean this is basically the conservatives absolute baseline (33/32%), I said on a thread ages ago that Johnson, Gove and Patel could go round to their houses shout obscenities' through the letter box, shit on the driveway and piss in fefe the dogs bowl and they would still explain it away as being necessary.

Unfortunately for the UK because of it's demography there are tonnes of them, they practically all vote and they are well spread across all constituencies, so the above is likely to change in the event of a new Conservative leader/the press forgetting about Johnson's misdemeanors due to the far higher baseline they are starting with. The press are upset, because Johnson is currently making them look stupid, with them having promoted him endlessly when Corbyn was threatening press monopolies, their endless house price increases and stashes in the tax havens.

It's akin to the Conservatives playing on easy mode or a crown green bowls pitch and the Labour party playing on hard in a mountain range.

Mr. Speaker, to govern this country is an honour, not a birthright; it is an act of service to the British people, not the keys to a court to parade to your friends.

Whoever wrote that needs to take a bow. That really struck me.

A fella called Phillip Collins (obviously not the singer) used to write Starmers speeches, not sure if he still does as he admitted Starmers first speech to Labour conference was too long, hes obviously learnt because the length of this weeks address to parliament was pretty much perfect. I'd be surprised if Starmer himself didn't take a hand in writing his speeches.

I think the Starmer/Savile stuff is a load of bollocks.

But, it is quite funny to see the hypocritical linguistic gymnastics from the centrist political commentators who argued that Corbyn, as leader of the Labour Party, was responsible for everything that happened in the party whereas, Starmer, as DPP and the most senior prosecutor in the land and the head of the CPS, doesn’t have the same level of leadership responsibility.

Its kind of ironic they are defending a man who was smeared with lies in the media by doing exactly the same.

I'm fairly sure Corbyn himself wouldnt be particularly grateful.

I hope starmer takes Johnson to the cleaners however as if he doesn't,it will give licence to the likes of the mail etc.

Think that's about right.

I'd say about 30%of the electorate are going to vote Tory come what may.

They need to write them off.

However the rest of the electorate is rather disparate.. young leftist types, middle of the readers, red wall types, traditional left leaning voters in places like liverpool and Manchester, Brexit types on northern mill towns..how do you appeal to all them?

The fact people are talking about it shows how well Johnson instinctively understands what a nation of morons he's ruling, where as Labour I suspect still don't.

Yep it's completely taken the spotlight away from the Sue Gray report.

If so, he’s made a hell of a mistake because 1) the Tories are disgusted and they’re the ones deciding if he stays or goes 2) there’s still the full report and criminal investigation to come. If it’s a deflection tactic, it’s a dogshit one.

Are they really though , NV , I keep reading this but other than a few old-school  Tory outliers I wouldn't think it will make much of a difference to the vast majority of them  , and if it is a vote winner most will grudgingly embrace it.

I can only judge on what people I've spoken to (Tories, with knowledge about what happens inside the Tory party) are saying about the general disgust in the Tory back benches, which is pretty strong apparently. There are a number of Tories publicly stating it to his face in parliament. I mean, I guess we will see. I don't think it's some savvy ploy to deflect though.

A Few of them don't seem happy with it but I've hardly seen widespread condemnation..and certainly not in the media

Apparently they have a what'Sapp group where they discuss black tricks and that is top of the list.

He fully knew he was going to say it.
