Transgender stuff - what's going on?

LadyD works in an all girls school.  One of the pupils has made it known she wishes to identify as a male now so staff have been told to watch their pronouns etc.  I offered that if they were truly serious about respecting the gender identity of the child they should be removed from this all girls school immediately

Surely if the kid now identifies as a male then it's incumbent upon the parents to move the kid to a mixed sex school ?

That's genuinely an interesting point.

It's logical if you think children should be forced to change school for being transgender, yeah.

Probably more to do with the logic that boys shouldn’t be allowed in an all girls school?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t care either way. Whatever makes the kid feel comfortable in their own skin is fine with me. I’m fact, I probably am more uneasy with all girls/boys schools than I am transgender inclusion in them.

Agreed. It’s completely unnatural to segregate children because of gender. There'd be uproar if we did it over race. It causes huge problems too. Bullying is far more insidious in single gender school than co-ed ones.

We have a trans girl in school now and the almost universal acceptance of her by staff and kids is maybe the proudest experience of my career.

How old is she?

Secondary age (11-16). Don’t want to say anymore, if you don’t mind, as she’s entitled to confidentiality. By rights I shouldn’t mention her at all. However, I think it’s important that people know this can happen really successfully.

Of course mate, there's plenty of dick heads who'd be 'outraged'. It's brilliant she's getting the support - well done to you all.

Same story here - no fuss, no bullying. The tricky bit is not using names or pronouns that you've been using for previous years.

If kids are shown others with different religions, sexualities etc earlier they really dont care. The issue is the schools and parents that separate kids

Absolutely. Children  are far too busy bullying other kids and making their lives miserable over hundreds of other things.

Read an article today about a boy who wants to identify as a girl. His family are allowing him to take drugs to suppress puberty.

Apparently if he undergoes the op in the future her vaginal depth is reliant on penis size, so he won’t be Pauline. If he changes his mind and wants to be a boy I wonder if he can have a chemical puberty later.
