Shelvey recalled

According to the offal.

Liverpool have recalled Jonjo Shelvey from his loan spell at Blackpool following a knee injury to Lucas at Chelsea.

Shelvey has enjoyed a fruitful spell with the Seasiders, netting six goals for the Championship club.

One of the highlights of his loan spell was netting a stunning hat-trick during a win over Leeds.

I'm not sure about the reasons for bringing him back at this stage. Adam and Henderson can't play the Lucas role so where is he backing up a position? Gerrard could play it but he's not fit himself and I've no idea when they expect him back...

Can anyone have a stab at why he's been recalled?

At the moment our only fit central midfielders are Adam, Henderson, Spearing. With Henderson being played predominantly on the right as well we are very very low on numbers. For me that's the main reason he's being bought back, not as a like for like replacement for Lucas but just to bolster the numbers.

This is a clear sign to me that Gerrard really is fucked.

I agree, and it also doesn't show that much faith in Jay

Not sure how you've come to that conclusion.

Lucas is out, therefore we have one less midfielder in the squad. We have one midfielder out on loan. Therefore it makes perfect sense to recall Shelvey.

How this is a slight on Spearing I have no idea.

We currently have Adam, Henderson, Spearing and Shelvey as four fit central midfielders. We need at least four players to cover a midfield two or three, whichever system Kenny chooses.

Spearing will be more important to us while Lucas is out, as he seems to be the one who get his tackles in a bit more. I see the other three offering more going forward than Jay does, but I see Jay offering more protection for the back four, so I expect him to come in, with probably Adam and Henderson ahead of him in a midfield three, with Shelvey on the bench.

It means nothing of the sort regarding Stevie dont be hysterical.

Its just common sense.

Some people are constantly looking for stories or problems where there aren't any. Within a few days there will be a conspiracy theory to rival all others.

"Shelvey was brought back 'cause Gerrards got ankle aids and lucas' knee is actually a WMD and he won't ever play, except for Al Qaeda"
