With the weather like it is i thought i'd forgo the usual rigours of doing a Sunday dinner and just make some hearty comfort food.

So i made a fuck off pan of Cheese, Leek, chicken and mushroom soup. Made a load of my own Fladen bread and the whole thing was just effing gorgeous. I'm bapped after three bowls of that with the bread. Now to drink that cider.

So what do you lot like to make as comfort food ?

I had a bacon butty for breakfast and I'm going to have another for lunch, maybe with an egg on top.

Bacon sandwich, with HP sauce. Just bliss whatever the weather.

Agreed. Already been there today and it was superb. Just missing some ketchup.

Trying to resist eating the contents of the left over christmas shortbread tin at the moment. Shortbread is always very comforting.

When the subject of comfort food comes up, it isn't just about the dish but it is about the amount of food to consume. I like mashed pots, but you can't really consume enough to make yourself content. Well, you can but it is too heavy for that. What I find best is a nice chicken and sweetcorn broth. Works well to warm you right up and you can eat fucking loads, so it lasts for ages. Add to that thick, white, crusty bread with a nice spread of butter... magic.

The same applies to pasta. You can consume that for fucking ages and it stays warm inside you. Good times.

On Wednesday morning , I finally gave up getting into work after an hour trying to get a bus or taxi.

Upon returning home , I sat in front of the fire looking out at the snowy wastes & demolished 4 rounds of Warburtons extra-thick toast with loads of butter & 2 cups of tea.

Everything seemed right with the world.

Making a Bolognese stew today.

Fry off a load of minced beef, add red onions, mushrooms and tinned tomatoes ( those ones which are hacked small. You can use fresh but i prefer tinned for stuff like this ). Fry off together. Make enough sauce of your choice and add to above ingredients and use herbs and spices to taste. Bring to the boil and then add Penne pasta, simmer for 15-20 minutes with lid on. Stir in some cream and eat the fucker.

My mother in law stays for tea on a Wednesday so last week we had a big gammon joint between us with sauce, potatoes & vegetables, we're having it again this week, proper comfort food that is.

Apparently if you cook it in coca cola it's really good so they're on about trying that, I did suggest Irn Bru & sticking some haggis in the gammon to make it 'gammon balmoral' but that might be a bit too much hassle.

Gammon.
