Speed for me is much to do with game intelligence that mph. Hansen, is a prime example of a properly intelligent, fast player. He already had a 2 yard start over just about anyone... in his head! Same with strikers like Robbie - the USE off your speed is way more important than the actual speed itself. That seems to get forgotten in these days of "pace and power", and other such Premiership cliche bollocks.

Cisse was the polar opposite of Hansen. All brawn and no brain.

 

Torres has both awesome speed AND awesome game intelligence, which is very, very rare. Result!

Watch the way that Torres slows players down then goes again. It's the change of speed he has that can be devastating. Very intelligent use of his physical attributes.

I think babel's excelaration over short distances is unreal, the penalty incident he is actually pulling away from toure and fab before they tug him back.

walcott has to be THE fastest player with the ball at his feet I have ever seen. masherano who is running without the ball trying to clip his heel couldn't keep up with him.

I reckon Owen always looked faster because of how diminutive he was. It was like a ten year old on a chemical cocktail.

 

Torres, Babel, Cisse are/were all over six feet tall.

 

I reckon Cisse was quickest in a straight sprint, Torres with the ball...but I agree, I dont think we've seen Ryan really bust a gut yet, so it could end up being him.

Fairclough was fast also remember JR saying on sly sports a few months ago that Gerrard was a freak because of the burst of speed he has.

If you look through some youtube clips of Cisse, he really was fucking fast. I remember one incident in the Gerrard FA Cup final where he beat Konchesky to the ball over 40 yards and Konchesky had a 15-20 yard head start.
