The new Fantastic Beasts - 1/10

Took my daughter and even she wanted to leave after a hour to go and get a KFC. Utter shite.

But you hadn’t dressed up in your Hogwart’s gown and carried your wand to the cinema just to miss out, so you made her sit through it until the end.

Nah we left, it was mind-numbingly boring and a Zinger Tower meal and 3 hot wings were calling for me.

X (2022) an entertaining horror film. A  group of 3 men and 3 women rent an outbuilding on a farm in rural USA to film a porn film in 1979. Its a nice homage too and pastiche of slasher films from the 70s and 80s. Also some riffs on liberals v religious right in America.

Nicely filmed. Very entertaining with lots of gore and female nudity

8/10

The Last Duel.

Ridley Scott does a rubbish Rashomon tribute act.

Jodie Comer is the only positive whatsoever.

I enjoyed it.

The Northman - 8.5/10

Very, very good. Shakespeare-esque story, fantastic cast, plenty of action and it has that macabre/supernatural vibe that Robert Eggers is becoming famous for.

Totally different than The Lighthouse and The Witch but this is his finest movie yet.

It's a good film in itself.

I haven't seen Rashomon though. Maybe if you are a big fan of Japanese films from 1950 then it's not so good.

What I like about it most is it's based on an actual story of one of the last ever trials by combat and the story seems to go along with what is supposed to have happened.

Saw this this afternoon and, while I thought it was good, I’d go 7/10. It’s a loose reworking of Hamlet and as such the plot works well. The casting is great and it’s moody and brutal in equal measure. The cinematography is also superb - especially of the night sky.

Ultimately though I don’t think it would stand up to repeat viewings as it isn’t that engaging. Hence my score of 7.

Yeah, it's a good film in itself. He's obviously seen other films but he's made his own.

The Batman

warning potential spoiler

starts brilliantly with a terrifying introduction to The Riddler and carries on in the detective style story similar to Se7en.

However, just when you think they’ve made a great detective movie, they go and ruin it all by blowing the left over budget in adding on another half hour with a shitty CGI storyline wity the Gotham city sea wall.

Everyone’s story has already been wrapped up yet this just reminded me of the pointless add on at the end of The Dark Knight with the Nukes on the ferries.

9/10 upto that point.

6.5 at the end

Edit: I wish my hair would grow as fast as Zoe Kravitz’ does in this

Yeah mate in the section about Marcelus Wallaces soul

"Intricate in its explanation, the fan theory points to the plaster on the back of the character’s head along with the combination code to unlock the case being ‘666’, as major pieces of evidence. "

But other than that, my point stands…
