Public Enemies - 7/10. All the way through I just felt like there was something missing. Can't put my finger on it though. Good performances, good story, good characters and good direction.

All the ingredients are there. I don't know what it was missing but it should have been far better.

Exactly what I thought. I came out of the cinema thinking "good film but should have been a great film". Maybe it was the script or the overdone close-ups - just didn't grip you like it should have. (and the tommy gun fights were piss poor too).

Didn't you also think the handheld filming technique was really out of place in a period piece?

It also looked too 'clean.'

I really don't want to compare it to 'Heat' but I suppose that was always going to happen with Michael Mann making another crime film. Compared to 'Heat' this is shit. As a stand alone film though, it's still better than most of the shite that comes out within the genre.

Agree with all that. I enjoyed it but was disappointed overall.

That'd be the case for most films though, so it's not that harsh a criticism.

Granted, but I'm just talking in terms of how these two match up as they're both directed by Michael Mann.

I also think he tried too hard with the 'both sides of the same coin' angle between Dillinger and Purvis. It just didn't work.

Adventureland 8/10

Set in the 80's a College kid has to work at the local carnival for the summer, American comedy drama thing I liked it.

Same guy who did Superbad apparently, it's a bit different to that it's not constantly funny and there's more drama to it but still good.

The last two films i watched both had the word "town" in the title. Odd.

"Somers Town" - Alright, but not up there with Shane Meadows best, far too short at 1 hr 10 mins as well. 6 out of 10.

"Ghost Town" - I expected to dislike this but ended up really enjoying it, although to a degree it was a pretty formulaic Rom-Com and Gervais was his usual self, his redemption was pretty believable and the supporting cast was excellent. 7 out of 10.

Bruno, 7/10, funny but although It was supposed to be vulgar, I thought he resorted to it a bit too easily whenever a scene went quiet. Talking about fanny tits and dick gets you a laugh in nearly any Monday night open mic comedy night, but I expect it to be done a bit more creatively by a genius such as this.
