I was only thinking about him recently on a long drive.

He’s an incredible footballer. Possibly my favourite current footballer talent wise. Also seems likeable, and, what is very rare, is very interesting in post match interviews where he’s really open about tactics and processes in a game.

But his whole career is going to be tainted. And not even just a little bit tainted. It’ll be totally covered by an asterisk. Whenever his achievements are discussed it’ll always carry a caveat that he played the best part of his career for a team that were caught cheating multiple times. And I genuinely think that’s sad for such a talented player who’s a joy to watch.

There's also an additional whiff of Chelsea off him.

Jan 2014 was the time we should have been pushing really hard to sign this guy, instead of letting him go to Wolfsburg. Also Chelsea then used the money they got for him to gazump us on the Salah deal. Imagine if we’d got them both.

Mind you that would have required some actual investment from FSG and it might have resulted in Rodgers in charge for like an extra two seasons.
