It's an interesting piece in some ways that.  Obviously a naked attack on May, presumably in an attempt to support Leadsom, but it actually backfires because the key issue facing Border Force isn't actually competence at all; like every other government department these days it is funding and that doesn't come down to May at all, it's all on Gideon and Dave.

The funding cuts that have been imposed over the last six years mean that every government department have been left making some very stark choices about which areas of work they abandon in order to maintain at least something resembling a service in others.  Even my department which has come out of it all probably about the best of all of them overall with additional funding allocated to tax compliance work has only gained that by making savings in other areas with the inevitable decline in performance which follows; it's just that in our case the funding shift has at least been targeted at the areas where we will bring in the most revenue for the money spent.

Border Force simply doesn't have that luxury because it's not a revenue generating department and there were no areas of little importance that it had responsibility for to begin with.

I'm no fan of May, or any of the Tories, but attempting to attack her over the issues in that article is like sending your lad to the shop with a quid and then bollocking him when he comes home with spam and a can of Panda cola instead of rump steak and a case of Cristal.

Guest Numero Veinticinco

Hopefully they both die in a fire.

How many have to die in a fire until we get to an acceptable one?

You'd have to be madder than a Tory candidate to want the malignant backstabber anywhere near you.

Agreed on that point...nutty as squirrel shit.

But that's not the rumour, she doesn't believe he wants to 'exit far enough'.

That was the point I was making.

Leadsom lives just down the road from me and was a local councillor until she hit the big time

I'd love to say everybody remembers her as an evil witch in the Thatcher mould but nobody remembers her at all. Total non-entity who did nothing

Apparently she stood for election in Knowsley South in the 2005 General Election...wonder if she did much canvassing around Page Moss?

Rumours Leadsom wouldn't offer Gove a cabinet role as he's not 'Leave' enough.

Fucking rotate.

Haha. That is quite funny. Well it would be if it wasn't for the fact she might be running the show in a month. How is she spinning this whole little englander shit when only a couple of years ago she was preaching leaving the EU would give us 10 years of economic disaster? What's changed and why is she not being questioned on this?

She's promising to trigger Art 50 immediately.
