We're going round in circles here and its getting tedious, the EU are a determined bunch and there's no doubt if the EU continues to exist without us they'll push on ahead with this

It'll be fun watching them from the outside trying to flex there muscles at Russia (and maybe even the US the way things were looking) without us.

it will be interesting to watch us hiding behind the coattails of whatever powerful bully we can when it all goes off.

The tax-dodging billionaire who owns the Express was (again) busily stirring up some xenophobia to keep us scared, stupid and divided last week.

The trouble is that they have (again) resorted to a journalistic technique known in the trade as "making shit up".

http://www.thecanary.co/2017/01/19/story-went-viral-yet-german-chancellors-office-confirms-express-fabricated-whole-thing-exclusive/

The headline is nothing short of incitement to xenophobia. It is worded to stir nationalism and anti-European sentiment within the UK. But it’s also entirely made up. Angela Merkel said no such thing. Regarding either the military capabilities of the UK and USA, or the need for a “German-led EU army”. The Express headline is a hoax – the very definition of ‘fake news’.

Nothing presented in the article by Nick Gutteridge provides any reason to run such an inflammatory headline. Nor was there any hint of a slur upon UK and US forces in the snippet of the speech provided. The newspaper used a small and scarcely reported public appearance by the German Chancellor in Brussels as an opportunity to engage in unsubstantiated war-mongering. Then relied upon there being little evidence in the media to contradict it.

They were correct in that prediction. The only full version of Merkel’s speech on YouTube is in her native German, with no translation. Anyone but a fluent German speaker would typically pass it by. So The Canary contacted Angela Merkel’s Press Office for a statement.

Caught red-handed

A German government spokesperson told The Canary:

Chancellor Merkel did not make any reference whatsoever to the UK and/or USA being ‘weak’ in her speech in Brussels on January 12, nor did she ask for ‘a German-led EU army to defend Europe’. This does in no way reflect her thinking. There is no factual basis for The Express headline.

So it appears the newspaper saw fit to ‘report’ on an imaginary arms race simply to incite fear.

In case Pissy or any other German-speakers want to check whether the Express or the Canary are right, here's the full speech.

The Express are always having a pop at Merkel, usually using headlines about immigrant projects failing, followed by a load of bullshit. I remember reading about one where they claimed Germany was falling into lawlessness due to the Migrant crisis. They just make shit up as they know the racist idiots will believe any old shite they print.

I don't have to watch the above video to know this claim is just fabricated lies Angry, if she had said the stuff Gutteridge falsely claims then it would have made the main news and not been left to a gutter press cunt like Gutteridge and his Heil Express. That excuse for a rag is nothing more than a mouthpiece for the right wing and their views, followed by a bunch of xenophobes, racists and uneducated twats.

Regarding the strength of our Forces now ( since recent Austerity cuts)- is it true that we have less soldiers in our Army now than we lost in a single battle in World War one?

that's surely a good thing.  If the lack of personnel means less lemmings will get killed, then I'm all for it.

A Global Britain = Deals with all the white countries/ those we used to colonially domineer

The difference is, those countries have got wise.  India, for example, takes this country for a massive smoker.  We provide aid, we encourage Indians to come in to remove opportunity and lower the wages of UK citizens, and we hardly have bilateral equivalence in anything.  Trading, nope.   I'd love to be able to buy property in Bangalore, but I can't as I'm not an Indian national, though I know dozens of Indians who have bought more than one property along the M4 corridor to provide an additional source of income.

The days of Empire have gone the way of Turdsy's cargo pants.  The worm has turned, and we are more likely to be the taker than the giver of bummings.

Nissan to review Sunderland plants competitiveness after Brexit, according to the Guardian.

"Ghosn was reported as saying that Nissan trusted Theresa May’s assurances, but that the company would need to review the situation. “Obviously when the package comes, you are going to have to re-evaluate the situation, and say, ‘OK, is the competitiveness of your plant preserved or not?’

So hands up who really believes we will get a deal out of Trump ?

He will be the most protectionist President in history

Any deals will be self serving on his behalf and the rich who will hang out of his arse. They'll take an age to sort out and the trickle down effect will stop abruptly, unless of course you count having some shity paid job as a bonus. You also have to factor in that the man is a compulsive liar who will say any old shit to gain attention.

The only "trickle down effect Trump recognises is REMAINDER OF POST REMOVED ON LEGAL ADVICE
